Frognerparken
2023 Oct 13
A huge park with lots of walking and biking trails, and grassy areas for relaxing or picnics.
Also, the central part of the park is the Vigeland Park and sculpture garden, featuring the largest garden collection of sculptures in the world.
Park entrance is free.
There are several subway and tram stops nearby, and it’s about a 10 minute ride in the tram from downtown.
Be sure to visit while you’re in Oslo!
Historical Museum

This museum isn’t huge, but it has a great collection of Viking artifacts, a really large and interesting collection of gold coins, and some Egyptian artifacts.
I was surprised by probably the largest collection of Samurai armor and weapons, as well as other artifacts, that I have seen anywhere in the world. If you are a fan of those historical figures, then don’t miss this collection.
They have free lockers, several restroom, and a gift shop.
Entrance fee is about $10 for adults.
Nationalmuseum
2023 Oct 06
A very nice museum to spend an hour or two, with several works from famous artists like Rodin and Rembrandt, but not the greatest national museum that I have seen in my travels.
For an art enthusiast especially familiar with Dutch or Swedish artists, it may be more interesting.
There are plenty of bathrooms and free lockers to store your things as you wander through.
This is a beautiful and picturesque temple in the heart of Ubud well known for its amazing Lotus ponds.
Unfortunately, the Lotus ponds are currently under construction (as of August 2023), so they are not as beautiful as seen in other photos. They currently have one side completely drained, and the lotus plants on the opposite side are not in top condition.
Still, the temple is worth a visit as it is fairly unique, and is a very popular place for photos, as you must wear Balinese dress (a wrap, kimono, and for men a headdress) to enter.
Many people love getting photos while they are “in local costume.
The location on Google maps is a bit confusing. Just look for the entrance to the temple and the ticket booth adjacent to the Starbucks.
The entrance fee is about $7 US, which includes loaning of your required attire.
Plan to spend about an hour here to get your photos, as often you will have to wait 15 to 30 minutes or more in line.
We had a really great meal at this little vegetarian place!
They don’t have a large menu (like many warungs) but plenty of choices for a great meal.
We had the peanut veggie heap, and the naughty Tempe dishes, and they were both really tasty. The portions were fairly large, too.
We will definitely return here again sometime and recommend it to others
