Modern steps up to the Palentine Hill with all its wonders and a great view of the Roman Forum.
The gallery is on the first floor of the Charles V Palace, in the Alhambra. It contains works from the 17th century onwards, quite a lot of it religious art. It costs €1.50 to enter, free for EU citizens, which means free as they don't check I.D. OK, it's quite small, but worth a look round.
After the Cathedral, this beautiful medieval building is the major attraction of Cologne.

It's a working town hall, in fact when I went there was a wedding party outside, and an extension with modern architecture is juxtaposed to the medieval part.
