We visited on a rainy day and yet managed to spend 5.5hrs indoors with kids under 10years. So happy to have used our Museumkaarts and enjoyed the many interactive exhibits both for kids & adults. Special mention: do not miss the Stoomtheater performances. We saw Dominique and absolutely enjoyed the performance, the actor was a 🌟

I'll admit it, I needed to burn 90 minutes, so I stopped here. That is the only reason other than liking model railroading. If you don't like children, this may not be the place for you as they are everywhere like locusts. There is more than enough space to find your quiet spot to explore.

I love the European rail and its history, especially the first half of the 1900s. It's all here, even a turntable for you rail fans. All kinds of stock are nicely restored, and much of it you can walk thru. It's about 50/50 indoors versus outdoors. Then, there is a small area dedicated to European model railroading. My quiet spot. It covered so many of the types through the years in various sizes. It was interesting to see the progression of the hobby and would have loved to have a local to discuss it deeper.

If the railroads interest you, this place is worth a stop. Best of all, it is the most lovely walk through a local neighborhood to get there.

For the adults, as you approach the place on the left before the parking lot, it is a memorial to all the people sent off to their death through the station where this is all is currently housed. And way in the back outside is one of the cars used in the operatio to load the people into..

This is not just a railways museum.
This is a museum about of the life, the work, the way of living all these -about one hundred- years in Holland.
I like these type of museum. There you can see just a bunch of professions, tools, household items, clothing, and countless electrical and mechanical gadgets of this period.

Definitely worth a visit if in Utrecht and need to kill a few hours. Plenty of exhibits, simulations and history to absorb. It is suitable for adults and kids alike, with lots of interactive facilities. The only downside is the cost. They charge the same price for adults and kids (free for infants) which I think is a bit of a rip off.

I visited the museum on a Wednesday with my boys. I got in with my Museumkaart but I bought tickets for my boys online. The online tickets were cheaper. It was very easy to access the museum because it was not crowded. We spent hours exploring the museum and my boys loved every moment of it.

We saw many old trains which was pretty cool. The evolution of train system of transportation happened before our eyes. It was an amazing feeling.

The bathrooms are clean but pretty oldskool. It was plunger-styled.

I recommend to anyone who wants to visit to do so during the week when the museum is not crowded.

This attraction is a fantastic destination for families. Despite the rain on our visit day, we didn't let it dampen our spirits as most of the site is undercover, allowing us to enjoy the exhibits without worrying about the weather.

Initially, I wasn't expecting to have a great time myself, but was surprised by how much my family and I enjoyed it. Our 3-year-old son, who loves trains, was thrilled, and even my 6-year-old son, who hadn't shown much interest in trains before, became engaged as well. The interactive exhibits were a hit with both boys, allowing them to learn and have fun.

As an added bonus, the on-site restaurant served delicious food. I was impressed by the overall presentation and layout of the attraction, which had a unique 'Steampunk' feel that added to its charm. Overall, it's a great day out for families, with plenty of exciting exhibits and activities to enjoy.

An excellent day out. They are renovating the back section at the moment, so the miniature railway ride and freight train simulator experience are both shut, but the rest of the museum was still well worth visiting.

The Steel Monsters exhibit was very well put together.

The day we visited (a weekday in April) was relatively quiet. It was nice that they still put on a train from Utrecht Centraal to the museum even when it isn't overly busy. Great for families!

The kids science sections were a hit, some really thorough explanations on how trains work!
