While the NASW has been around for nearly 70 years I have yet to see any ways that they have provided any tangible support to Social Workers. I have been a Social Worker since 2018 and I have never joined because I have never seen any positive benefit. Nothing about our licenses are transferrable, we are not able to practice outside of a state we are licensed in and the organization is ineffective in politically advancing values and objectives important to Social Workers. While the NASW Code of Ethics is a robust and progressive statement, it means nothing to the NASW as an organization or their leadership. They do not make public statements against oppression, they do not call out political leaders who undermine our code of ethics (especially if the political leaders are Democrats) or undermine our objectives. I gave them another chance this week and I am virtually attending The NASW National Conference. Overall, this is one of the worst conferences I have ever attended. The break out sessions and speakers they chose are covering the same basic concepts I learned in my introduction to Social Work courses. None of the content helps me be a better social worker or helps me develop new skills in anyway. However, the most disturbing part of the whole conference is the silencing and exclusion of virtual attendees of the conference. Virtual attendees are not allowed to give feedback, ask questions, make comments or engaged in ANY way with the conference. This is a major violation of the NASW Code of Ethics and one more reason why this organization is a scam to take money from underpaid Social Workers and give us nothing in return. Post pandemic there are a plethora of CEUs and professional education for Social Workers, many of these courses thoughtfully engaged in virtual attendees and deliver high quality training - The NASW National Conference is not one of these and one of the most disappointing conference I have every attended.

NASW-National Association of Social Workers has been a Long-Term Professional platform beginning with Mt Baccalaureate pursuits.
