Opened in 1911. İts seen all the wars, and lived. It's intact. It's huge. If you come to Hamburg, stop by. And the elevator is interesting.
The Hamburger Tunnel, officially known as the Old Elbe Tunnel, was constructed in Hamburg, Germany, between 1907 and 1911. Its construction was a remarkable engineering feat of the time, designed to provide a direct connection for pedestrians and vehicles between the city center and the docks on the south side of the River Elbe. The tunnel, measuring approximately 426 meters in length, was built using innovative techniques, including a hydraulic system to lift and lower large elevators for vehicles. Today, the tunnel serves as a historic landmark and popular tourist attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into Hamburg's industrial past.

It’s a tunnel under the Elb. You can go from the ground down or from the tunnel up by stairs or one of the elevators. To go through the tunnel it’s about 5 minutes. On foot use the sidewalks otherwise the cyclists hits you.
It’s a tunnel, nothing more. Go through and you can check it out on your list.

Embark on a captivating journey to the dawn of the 20th century as you explore an extraordinary subaqueous transportation system beneath the River Elbe. This technological marvel not only signifies an impressive achievement but also envelops you in an enchanting ambience. The culmination of innovation and atmospheric allure culminates in reaching a delightful lookout point on the opposite bank of the river, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the city of Hamburg.

Germany 🇩🇪 Alsterarkaden

located next to Hamburg City Hall, is a charming boutique street. Dating back to the mid-17th century, this area has been a renowned pedestrian zone in Hamburg. Noteworthy for its Victorian-style design, the arches create an illusion reminiscent of Venice when viewed from a distance.

Nice location, which you can access for free. Impressive to see the art of "past days engineering", even the old cargo elevators are still working. Lovely artwork on the tiles of the tunnel.

The Alter Elbe tunnel is an impressive architectural marvel and a must visit attraction, and it's completely free! Board on a huge elevator (or take the stairs) and cross the Elbe river walking under it on a beautifully designed tunner cover, contemplating the decorative tiles.
From the other side you have a beautiful panoramic view of Hamburg.
Be aware that although it is more than 100 years old, the tunnel is still used by locals to commute, so don't get in the way of cyclists
Stare budynki odrestaurować, klimaty bardzo ciekawy. Można iść chodnikiem ale też wiaduktem
It's a very interesting museum. I learnt a lot, even about the destruction of the old city in order to build the Speicherstadt.
If you want to learn about Hamburg's role in the Hanseatic commerce come here, not to the International Maritime Museum (which is a freaky display of models and objects).
The museum also take into account the working conditions of people in the Speicherstadt. This social perspective is something that should be positively valued in this kind of cultural infrastructures.
At the same time, it is difficult to follow the English explanations on the tablet because the numerical symbols in the exhibition are not forwardly clear.
Красиво! Это стоит посмотреть! Рекомендую!

Beautiful old tunnel under the elbe river. You can get up and down in three ways: walking on stairs, normal elevator and the car elevator, it was a fun and nice experience and on the other side there is a beautiful view of hamburg. It does not cost anything to use the tunnel.

You will see some interesting things. It was small, not that big. And if you are patient enough to read the guidance, you will like it. We learned sth by visiting this small museum. :))

It was nice to walk inside. We enjoyed the experience of walking beneath the river. There are elevators in each entry point. There is a view-point for river Elbe when you exit at the opposing side, you can take beautiful photos of the city with magnificent panoramic views
Superba zona , frumos de savurat o bere rece la una dintre terasele de pe faleza
Nice smaller museum with a café inside.

There are 5-6 steps at the entrance but the exposition itself is on one floor with wide enough spaces for a wheelchair.

I rather like that the exposition is structured by aspect rather than chronologically, it gives a better insight into what life around the Speicherstadt was actually like.

There are some pieces that are interactive. I particularly enjoyed how i found the answer on how probing of cargoes was done in the past by actually trying it out myself.

The café has a good selection of teas, some softdrinks and a tasty cake.
