We ordered from here as we always do. Got a duck Thai red curry and it smelt like literal poo. It smelt and tasted off. Took it back to them and they proceeded to treat us like we were trying to rob them. Mind you we spent over £60 and had no complaints about anything but this one dish. They stood in front of us speaking about us in their language. You don’t need to understand the language to know nothing nice was said because of the facial expressions. Got the refund in the end after having to argue back and forth. Not a way to treat customers!

The food has gone down-hill in recent weeks.

I am unsure what has happened but the packaging has changed, all of our favourite food now comes VERY different. For example then wraps are tightly wrapped with not much substance, the fishcakes and chips are stale, and the sausages have changed to a very processed taste.

We used to order weekly but now we will try again in a few months.

This was an old review, i can say that it has improved back to how it used to be, i'm not sure what has changed but good job Trawlies :)

Absolutely fantastic chippy. Genuinely up there with some of the nicest takeaway cod & chips I've ever had. I'd recommend the salt & pepper squid as a starter too. Will be our go-to chippy for Saffron Walden - I think the Trawlerman is a real asset for the town. The staff are also very friendly, there is a nice ambiance about the place.

My first time eating from this takeaway tonight..... and I wasn't disappointed at all, the chicken balls from here were absolutely amazing! Fresh suculant chicken and the batter was cooked to perfection, my veggie rolls were lovely and soft and the chips and mushroom curry were bang on point, by far the best Chinese I've had in a long tine, it was well worth the journey from haverhill 🥰 xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Over the years, the whole place, the food, the consistency has built up to being by far the best chip shop I've ever been to. Even on Friday nights, they stay consistent and prove to be the best chippy in walden, arguably the whole of southern England. They're pretty good

Had the best fish and chips ever at The Trawlerman in Saffron Walden today! The fish was incredibly crispy, and the flavor was outstanding. Golden chips complemented the dish perfectly. The friendly service added to the overall positive experience. A must-try for fish and chips enthusiasts!

Best fish and chips in Saffron walden hand down. Ive certainly tried all the others. The trawlerman offers sustainable choices of fish which others do not and the quality and taste (fresh oil) makes a huge difference. Good work guys. keep it up.

The best fish & chip shop in town! Fantastic service, staff are such lovely people & always very welcoming. Impressive menu, the gourmet burgers, seafood basket & snack boxes are absolutely delicious. Cannot recommend enough, you wont be disappointed. Thanks guys.

Purchased cheesy chips today. They were awful, chips were microwaved yet hard and tasted stale/rubbish. I have never had cheesy chips from any other takeaway where they microwave them to melt the cheese. Just leave the cheese to melt on fresh hot chips. Won’t use this takeaway again as the last few times have been really disappointing and there are plenty of other places locally that offer better food. Pics speak for themselves! I am updating this review to say that I WAS a genuine customer and that your response to my review is laughable, blaming another chip shop Is a low blow and I won’t use your business again in the future.

Great fish and chips, biggest cod in town in my opinions. Chips taste lovely! Always friendly and hopeful. Complimentary condiments a nice touch.

First Chinese takeaway since arriving in SF. Very impressed. On time order, hot food and tasty. And on New Years Eve. We will return again 👍

The food is amazing a very classic Chinese Takeaway, worth it just for the prawn toast, best prawn toast I have ever had.

Prices are good but your get a substandard product. The base is not fresh, it's chewy at best. Not enough sauce either. Mozz dippers were stone cold. Tried again after a not great experience 3years or so ago. Try to support local business but wasn't worth it again.

Hidden gem in Saffron Walden, although this place is only a small takeaway the quality of their pizzas is exceptional, I've been a customer here for 5 years and througout the consistently has been impeccable. Always fresh, always cooked perfect, always delicious. If you like your pizza, then please do yourself a favour and walk past the tasteless plastic Domino's next door and treat yourself to a proper Italian pizza.
