Well presented castle very friendly informative staff would be a lovely place to have a picnic

Nice Castle with great inner ward and small but interesting keep.

Definitely worth a stop off.

A lovely well kept ruin run by English Heritage.
We managed to have a visit before the rain came.
You can have a nice explore around inside and in the grounds.
A walled castle with quite a lot still left to see and walk.

There are some hilly bits and steps to walk. You could get muddy feet, decent footwear needed.

Some parents had let their kids run too far ahead and out of sight, I had to stop one of them claiming a wall with a sheer drop on the other side. 🫤

If you're visiting Barnard Castle town, it's worth dropping in and exploring.
