Fantastic little museum took bout hr and half to c everything. Staff happy answer Questions and give facts. Really enjoyed and it's completely free 👍
My pictures weren't great but this Museum is. There are so many things to do and see at the National Museum of Scotland. Entrance is by donation which is lovely, so if you aren't positive if the experience is for you - you can donate on the way out. There are at least two cafes both with tasty tea, espresso, desserts, sandwiches, vegetarian options, etc.

I saw people able to get on and off the lift/elevator with buggies/prams/strollers and with wheelchairs.

Staff are helpful. The bathrooms are nice and there are multiple. There was too much to get through in one day so we'll be back. They have robots you can try, interactive opportunities throughout, a spot you can put your face in to look like you're in a space suit.

The dinosaur bones are amazing, the meteor is cool, the interactive options are great, it was wild to see the remains of Dolly the cloned sheep!! So many scientific advancements explained, explored, and to engage with. The wave in the electrical section and the section on space were our favourites today.
This museum documents the history of Scotland and the Scottish people from the Stone Age to the modern industrial era. No fee and no ticket is needed. Museum entry is free. There are sections for wildlife, minerals, and other cultures like ancient Egypt. You can easily spend two hours exploring every part of the museum without getting bored.
Highly recommended to visit if you travel in Edinburg. I never expect it gonna be this great, beautiful design of building and setting the zone wisely. See most of world animals here especially famous Dolly the sheep. Very enjoy waking around while day to explore and learn new things with not feel boring, interesting stuffs. Will be back again surely.
Worth to visit!

The museum appears small, but it is actually quite large!
I was surprised that the thing from the pandemic already became museum pieces here 🥹
This museum was lovely. There was lots of information and artifacts from the history of Edinburgh, some donated from private collections by local, (some prominent) citizens. I enjoyed the pottery, ceramics, housewares, a bit of clothing, military artifacts, etc.
The museum is an aggregation of old buildings that the museum has acquired over time. The buildings themselves are just fascinating.
There is a wonderful exhibit, including the original proposal map of "New Town" Edinburgh and a video about the development, which I found quite interesting.
Edinburgh has these little gem FREE museums--take advantage of them.
Some really cool and interesting exhibitions and collections to look at, and loads of interactive and educational ones too. We didn't have long to walk around (2 hours max) as it was at the end of the day before our train ride home, but could have easily spent double that if not more to see everything. 12/7 year old kids both engaged and loved seeing the animals, dinosaurs etc.
Interesting museum dedicated to the history of Edinburgh with free entry. It's looks smaller from the outside, but it actually has a lot of rooms to explore. They also have a small gift shop however staff wasn't that friendly.
There is a large variety of exhibits. However, the building needs more maintenance and some renovation. It's quite an old building, and there was a distinctive smell that was unpleasant.
I went to this museum because the Real Mary King's Close was sold out and I had some extra free time on my hands that day. The entrance is free and it exceeded my expectations! I especially enjoyed some unique pieces and collections of ceramics.
Very interesting museum!
From what I can see, it is great for kids. I loved how there were a lot of interactive portions, even if I didn’t use them, it was nice.
A wide variety of subjects in one place, which is nice.
The views from the balcony are amazing!
The National Museum of Scotland offers a captivating blend of history, culture, and breathtaking views. From the rooftop, visitors are treated to an amazing panorama of the city skyline, making it a standout feature of the museum experience. Inside, an impressive collection of artifacts and exhibits further enriches the visit, providing insight into Scotland's rich heritage. With its combination of stunning vistas and fascinating displays, a trip to the National Museum of Scotland is a must for anyone exploring Edinburgh.
This is one of the best museums that I have visited lately that incorporates history, culture, arts, fashion and biology! And the best part? It’s completely free! My 16-year-old son and I split our visit into two separate afternoons because we didn’t have enough time to see and experience the entire place in just one day. Some locals that we met at the airport in Edinburgh had recommended that we visit. I am so thankful that we did. This is a great place for ages 8 to 88, and the café serves delicious food, as well!
This is an impressive and elaborate preservation of history. It is very large and has historic features from wildlife, nature, science and even spiritual cultures. The location is perfect for everyone in and around Edinburgh to have easy access.

The National Museum of Scotland offers a captivating journey through Scotland's rich history, culture, and natural heritage.

With diverse exhibits ranging from ancient artifacts to modern innovations, the museum provides an engaging experience for visitors of all ages. Its architecture blends traditional and contemporary elements seamlessly, creating a visually stunning backdrop for exploration.

The museum's extensive collection, interactive displays, and informative presentations make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Scotland's past, present, and future.

The staff are extremely helpful and it is also nice to see so many cultures from all over the world in one place.
Fantastic but little-known museum, which is located only 400 metres from Holyrood House, at the less popular end of Canongate (Royal Mile). The museum offers an insight into the history of Edinburgh in an interesting and informative way. For those lovers of Bobby (isn't everyone), they actually have his dog-collar and water bowl on display. The museum is free to enter, but donations are appreciated. There is also a small but interesting gift shop. Don't miss it.

Free entrance!

I definitely recommend the museum to all who want to explore explicitely the history of the city more. It is much larger than it looks like from the outside and contains details on Canongate but also the whole of Edinburgh. Also more details on Bobby including his collar can be found in the museum.

The yard with additional objects is not open in winter

Step into the historic Bank of Scotland Head Office, where this museum isn't just about money – it's a wild ride through history, art, design, tech, crime, trade, and security! And guess what? The entrance is on the house... Free! 🏦💰
Great experience at the museum. We were able to store our pram at reception. Cool little museum and not too crowded! Higly recommend stopping by if you're around the area. We made sure to take pics at the back of the Museum through Bakehouse close.
