Fantastic castle. It was quite a walk up a steep incline.from our parking lot. It was worth the time.
This is a premiere experience. Three plus wonderful churches. So, much, in this city with great views of the countryside. Such wonderful shops and views and so very classic in Italy.

We came to Assisi because my wife had heard about it being a nice Medieval town to visit - not even considering all the history with Saint Francis and all that. And we had no idea this wonderful little castle was here. We just stumbled upon it while wandering around town, and wow, what a great spot! Tickets to go inside are inexpensive, and it is absolutely worth it to get in to go up to the top for unique breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Test your nerve with the transparent floors in the tower! We had a great time and it was a highlight of our trip to Italy. If you get bored with churches, Rocca Maggiore is a must-see.
This Cathedral in Assisi is beautiful and dramatic. There is a nice piazza at the entrance to the Cathedral where we purchased pizza by the piece and sat on the wall and enjoyed the atmosphere of this place.
Must to see and there is Saint Francis tumb there and this is the most important place in this city. We was in May so was almost no line or waiting, no tickets. Super beautifull, colourfull amazing inside and outside.
It is a really calm place, but with many turists. Worth visiting St. Francis tomb. Inside no photos allowed.
Is is a lovely place full of calm energy. Not many turists and a really nice hike with views.
Assisi is one of the most beautiful and mystical places I have ever seen. To truly appreciate the cultural and historical significance of this location, you must visit it yourself. Additionally, you can visit the tomb of Carlo Acutis, where his body is completely well-preserved after undergoing a special treatment.
Interesting to visit, be prepared to walk or climb stairs (there is a difibrilator i. The entrance). We disi not payed the ticket, outside is already interesting. Rocca Maggiore in Assisi, Italy, is a medieval fortress built in the 12th century atop Mount Subasio. It served as a strategic stronghold for various rulers and underwent multiple expansions and renovations over the centuries. During the 14th century, it was expanded by Cardinal Albornoz, and later played a role in the struggles between the Papal States and various Italian city-states. Today, it stands as a prominent historical landmark offering panoramic views of Assisi and the surrounding countryside. Franciscode Assis when young was a soldier to fight against Peruggian, but was held prisioner and then realized he had another way to change the world: by LOVE! 🤗♥️
The Cathedral of San Rufino in Assisi is an important religious landmark. Dedicated to Saint Rufinus of Assisi, it was constructed in the Romanesque style in the 12th century, although it underwent several renovations and additions over the centuries. It holds significance as the place where Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Clare of Assisi were baptized. The cathedral features notable artworks and architectural elements, including frescoes by the Renaissance painter Giotto. Recommended even if you are not a catholic !!
From the moment you first walk up to the entrance is beautiful. Every step you take there's something breathtaking. The stain glass, walls, frescoes, statues, altars. chapels, and the tombstone of S. Francesco di Assisi keeps you in awe the whole time.
An architectural masterpiece with 2 levels of basilica. Its stunning façade, adorned with intricate details and frescoes. Inside, the basilica houses the tomb of Saint Francis, one of the most revered figures in Christianity. The basilica walls and ceilings are full of frescoes by renowned artists such as Giotto, which narrate the life of Saint Francis.
I really enjoyed going to this old fortress, going through the tunnel, climbing the towers, feeling the history, taking in the views. Absolutely magnificent! And there’s a pleasant cafe at the base.
I have been here multiple times and it impresses each time, which is why I keep coming back. Visiting the upper and lower Basilicas is incredible. The beautiful frescos by themselves are worth a visit. We spent >1 hour visiting the entire complex. I highly recommend the free Rick Steve’s audio guide tour when visiting. If you come to Assisi this is a must visit location. If you are questioning whether to make a visit to Assisi this should make the decision easier. There is a wonderful spirit of St. Francis here.
Climbed a hill to see the castle and laid down on the grass to look around the stunning view of Assissi. Highly recommend all of you to walk towards here as well.
I went there early in the morning. So, it wasn’t touristy at all. Guess this place was my favorite during the trip to Assisi.
This was truly a highlight! We somehow went when it was not crowded. We saw the crypt where St. Francis is buried. The lower portion of the basilica in many way is almost more beautiful that the upper portion. Both upper and lower have frescos by Giotto. Such an incredible experience!
If you visit Assisi, the Eremo delle Carceri is the perfect destination to follow the footsteps of St Francesco. If you decide to walk up, it is a 4,1km, approx. 1,5 hours steep uphill rocky hike, but it is well worth it, as the scenery is breathtaking. The hermitage is just pure serenity, the perfect place to connect to St Francesco. You can feel all that he stood for. It is a truly sacred place.
Serene, not to be missed when visiting Assisi.
Surprised by how much is here! Roman ruins, a book collection, paintings! And the place where St Francis prayed. And the chocolate for sale in the bookstore is my favorite so far!
This is an awesome medieval fortress, which was fun to walk around. The steps are sometimes tricky, so be careful. The café at the entrance has excellent service and tables in the shade.
È affascinante poter vedere come era e come è ora.

Sehr inspirierend, mystisch, ruhig, erholsam.
Franziskus.
Sehr schöner Urlaubsort.
Vor allem im Sommer.
A delightful walk starting at the Basilica of Saint Francis, through the surrounding woods and pastures outside the city wall. Reserve a few hours for this.
The walk here from the Basilica di San Francesco was wonderful. Truly beautiful woods - very peaceful, and away from the crowds you'll find in Assisi. An easy hike, well marked and maintained. There are lots of things to discover that the maps will point out to you if you feel adventurous.
