I love the Room with a View on level 4. One gets a nice view of part of the Imperial Palace, the stone walls and its moat. It looked melancholic on a rainy day...

For book lovers, there is a museum library that the public can visit on level 2.

This museum has a restaurant. I hope in future they will open a cafe.
Haven’t left a review in a while but this place makes my blood boiling. My recommendation is don’t come and don’t pay to come to a place like this.

The museum's exhibition on Japanese wartime paintings description downplayed so much of the suffering of the people Japan invaded. glorifying the supposed prosperity under Japanese rule, downplaying and omitting the severe atrocities committed. Only focus on military activities and the Japanese perspective, neglecting the harsh realities faced by the occupied populations and their resistance efforts. The portrayal of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere lacks critical examination of its imperialistic and propagandistic nature, only gives you an unfair and sanitized depiction of Japan's actions during World War II.
A very good Modern Art Museum, but I am not a fan of most modern art. I include a few items that are in fact Japanese that I did like. Many of the others are typical Modern Art of today and I just may not be a connoisseur.
The museum was filled with history and great art pieces contributed by art collectors. The inside of the museum is heavily quiet. Great for coming alone and or with your friends, a total of 4 floors to view
A favourite … plenty to see, but the scale is not at all overwhelming. The story of the way Japan’s art became modern is a fascinating one, full of visual delight and provoking unease.
I really enjoyed spending a rainy day exploring the museum and what it had to offer. The special exhibit was this time about photography which fit really with the collection in other floors.
I think unless you have a particular interest in the photographic work of Nakahira Takuma (Special Exhibition) you are better off saving your money (1500¥) and going to the General Exhibition instead; it's much cheaper, bigger (occupying three floors) and covers a broad range of both japanese art, and artists. Alot of the black & white photos in the Special Exhibition were not very clear as though they'd been photocopied several times.
