Nostalgic, straight down memory lane. This kopitiam definitely maintains its heritage vibes very well and the foods are soulful, light and yet satisfying in every way. Authentically Penang.

A must try if you are in Georgetown.

The lobak and Hokkien mee (Penang) are definitely recommended

Edit: The wantan mee is smooth and the char siew and dumplings are tender. The nasi lemak's sambal isn't spicy, but aromatic too. I'd say its worth trying everything there 😋♥️
The toast & bun traditionally baked taste so good. Service also good. Not so much seat and must queue patiently😊. Strategic place, between the famous Ban Heang and Cheng Woh store.
Amazing nasi lemak, classic wrapped in banana leaf, for RM3 a piece, you cant beat that price. Sambal is on the spicier side.

We googled and found this place. As this place gets crowded, you have 1hr to finish your order. Here's how it works. You take the card, go to the counter and order amd collect the tim sum. You will tend to over order as there is a huge variety of tim sum to try. Of course, there are also noodles and rice that you can order seperately. The tim sum taste authentic and the noodle was delicious. Only the coffee was disappointing as they serve 3 in 1. This place also closes early at 2pm and another business takes over at night. Parking is available but becomes a nightmare when it gets crowded.
A Malaysian trip won't be complete without tasting the SPICY Nasi Lemak - the national dish of Malaysia.

Michelin considers Ali Nasi Lemak Daun Pisang as this Penang's best one.  Best to drink it with local milk tea to neutralize the SPICINESS.

PRO TIP:  Very spicy and has dried anchovies.  Nice to try but it's not for everyone.

Arrived around 8.45am, be seated (2 adults) within a minute. Their staff will take order for beverage before you go to their steam and fried stations to choose what you wanna eat.

Instructions are clearly given by their staffs. Welcoming and friendly. Five star for their service.

Food is averagely good. Worth trying anyway.
came here early morning 8am just to queue for our lil breakfast🍞

Toh Soon Cafe in Penang is a legendary spot, famed for its traditional charcoal-toasted bread and aromatic coffee, all at very affordable prices. Give yourself a treat and experience the nostalgic flavors of old-world Penang.

overall, we enjoyed the breakfast here especially their toast with poached egg it’s suprisingly greatt!! ⭐️

Very nice dim sum, many many variety to chose. Their dim sum prawn is big whole prawn fresh & crunchy. Best dim sum i have ate during my 3 day stay there. Crowded with ppl, staff service is good & still ask for feedback. Their abalone bee hoon is good with wok hey, exp but worth to try. Will go back again if go back penang. We ate over 60 plate. Lucky we go on weekday & did not wait vry long for big table. Is already crowded during weekday, so I believe it will need to wait longer on weekends

**Food/Menu**: The restaurant offers a variety of dim sum! We arrived around 10 am and found a long queue, with many vans and tourists.

Fortunately, as a group of nine, we were able to get a reserved big table and were seated within 20 minutes.

Overall, the dim sum tasted good, though the steamed items were not hot enough. We highly recommend the Ipoh white coffee (kopi ice), which is a must-try.

The steamed cheong fun and fried carrot cake are also highly recommended. Other items were just average in our opinion.

**Ambiance**: It's a crowded, open-air setting, but the staff are quick and efficient in taking and delivering orders.

**How to Order**: The ordering process is unique and somewhat "messy" but orderly. You go to the food counter, pick your dim sum, and have a card where the staff note what you take. This card is also used for the bill.

**Value for Money**: Is dim sum , so be prepared for moderate prices.

**Location**: A car is necessary to reach the restaurant.
Stumbled to this place by chance. Highly recommended are duck egg char koay teow and fried Loh bak and prawn fritters. Recommended would be hokkien mee. So so would be Wanton noodle. We have tried their Nescafe and kopi ais, ok lar..
The almond coffee is 9,5/10.
The nasi lemak bungkus 9,5/10
Everything is good here. Definitely will go back here!
Its worth the long queue.

Simple local breakfast food selection; toasted flavoured bread with your preferred choice of spread, soft-boiled eggs, tea & coffee and also the traditional nasi-lemak wrapped in packing paper. Their in-house coffee was good and my mother had to get a bag of their instant coffee home. Service staff were friendly, polite and prompt! Queue starts shortly before lunch-hour and you might be caught basking in the sun heat, do plan your trip!
Old school place, been coming here since a kid. Same great taste. Super yes for Lor bak. Yes for char koay teow and porridge and hokkien mee(prawn mee). OK-OK for lor mee, lam mee and wantan mee. Kopi very nice and kow
Café y dulces sabrosos y a buen precio.
Touch 'n Go、Grab pay

One of my go to traditional Kopi Tiam in Penang. It has a collection of the usual stalls. The twist, all the stalls offers tasty and delish local cuisine such as the CKT, lor bak, morning economy rice and nasi lemak, wan ton mee, hokkien prawn mee, lor mee, Kaya toast and eggs, and decently aromatic Kopi and tea. A one stop spot for many of Penang much sought off local delicacies.

Atmosphere wise, it's an old rustic Kopi Tiam. IMHO, needs a little upkeep, especially the restroom and seating spaces.

Service wise, always friendly and courteous. All stalls are manned by experienced seniors. Enjoy while they are still around.
Nasi lemak sedap giler! Very fragant rice and very spicy and flavourful ladle of chilli on the rice! Be sure to try the salted fish nasi lemak, the umaniness of the salted fish brings out the flavour of both the rice and chilli! The chilli was a little dry but still very tasty and nice! Definitely worth a re visit for the taste and price point!
Simple menu offering local breakfast. You can taste the smokiness from the charcoal toasted bread which goes very nicely with Kaya. Some pieces weren’t as heavily toasted so those lacked that characteristic smokiness. Ordered Yuan Yang less sweet (coffee mixed with tea) but it was still too sweet.

Relatively fast turnover but they tend to attract large groups so that could affect how long you have to wait. They have limited seating in an air conditioned area within the Ban Heang store next door. Overall an enjoyable meal but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat it.

Ordered the black charcoal sesame and chocolate flavour bread, which are quite special. There're also a variety of other flavour bread and buns to choose from.

Ordered the iced Ho Ka Sai which is coffee + milo. Taste quite good as this is quite a popular drink in Malaysia, not just in Penang. The iced Almond milk is quite nice too.

You can also ordered the Lor Bak which is known as 五香 in Singapore. The coffee shop is just next to the famous

Parking is a big problem as the roadside parking lots are always full. I have to drive to the next street to get a parking lot
Tak layak dapat 1 bintang pun. Roti canai masin. Service lambat sampai . Masa menunggu roti canai 1 jam. Air pun dah sejuk. Roti canai tak sampai. Minta kari kambing dapat kuah je. Dia kata kambing tak ada. Makanan tak sampai lagi dia dah sibuk datang nak kira makan. Datang amik order 3 kali lepas 1 jam baru Roti canai sampai. No star at all.

Came here on a Saturday morning & had both the shrimp katsu + unagi sandwich.
Tasted great, love the texture of the creamy scrambled eggs in the buns. Particularly loved how the unagi paired together with the sandwich!

The cafe has a great atmosphere too! (Didn’t tried their coffee tho)

Would recommend!

Now I know why this place is THE place for dim sum in Penang! Even on a Monday morning, this place is packed to the brim. I can’t even imagine how it will be like on weekends. However, the business run like a well-oiled machine and every staff knows just what to do to speed things up for you. Once seated, u will be briefed clearly which side of the menu is to be ordered from staff, which to order at the counters. There are only 2 counters (steam or fried) clearly displayed where plates of hot goodies awaits your picking. Everything we ordered were delicious. Just wished we had a 2nd stomach to try more dishes! Restaurant is airy and well-ventilated, plenty of carpark spaces, even designated space for grab pick-up. Best part is always the pricing, so wallet-friendly! I can see why this is the must-try place even the locals will recommend.

Came to the cafe at 10am and was told that they are open at 10.30am on a Saturday. Came back after a short trip to a nearby supermarket and the wait is worth it. Ordered a cafe latte and a slice of banana cake. The cake is crunchy on the sides and yet moist and filled with the right banana fruit composition. The taste is not overly sweet and goes well with the coffee that I ordered another piece right after I finished. Definitely worth making a visit to this cafe!
Roti Can I vegetable gegeten, was de eerste keer en smaakte prima
Very fragrant and very tasty. Also very spicy; so get your drinks on stand by first, if you don’t have an Ironman superb spicy tastebud. You can order all carte other than their standard sets. Good for purging out your rheumatism and wind. 😬
The sambal is extremely spicy. It takes away the flavour of the nasi lemak. The rice was ok, got the lemak-y flavour but man that sambal is too much. I remember it was spicy back in my college days but I don’t remember it being THAT spicy! 🥵

We have breakfast here for 2 consecutive days, many choices of toast and drinks; which are nice, though the price is a bit high; and the serving is a bit slow due to one or two staff, but all the customers are happy to wait for the food. Will come back again during next trip!👍
Friendly owner.
Well, Not my fav nasi lemak, but bought it since requested by family member. Feedback was too spicy, make her doesn’t feel great at tummy.
Simple local Kopitiam. Had quick meal.
Lobak stall never disappoints - the prawn crackers and lobak are tasty.
Duck egg Char kueh teow highly recommended. Like the right balance of flavours, chilli and ingredients.
Note that the chicken rice there is also popular.

I can’t understand why this place had only a rating of 4.1. It deserves better. The location has ample parking for customers (Saturday morning) and the premises (what I would describe as a glamorous hut and tent) is clean and well organized. Makes for a lovely experience. The dim sum is delicious. Whilst slightly more expensive, the portions are generous.

Really good sandwiches on proper loaf bread and plenty of fillings inside. You do need to have cash to pay but this wasn't an issue for us. Would highly recommend the Toast Bacon sandwich

This was one of the meals I was looking forward to while visiting Penang. We came on a Monday morning and there was a queue when we arrived but it was fast. Soon enough, we were seated and ready to order.

Their Nasi Lemak was really good, one of the few good ones I've tried. The Sambal (Chilli Paste) was fragrant and I really enjoyed it (This is coming from someone who doesn't eat spicy food). The Roti Bakar (Toasts) and eggs were all delicious. Good coffee too.

Overall, I really enjoyed my meal here. Although, the food was pretty pricey compared to your typical Malaysian toasts and coffee. Understandable considering it is a touristy area.

Queue was quite fast. People eat and go. Uncle was nice and service was great. It was raining however with limited seats. I love the traditional way toast is made, the black coffee was great, nasi lemak was awesome. Will recommend to buy the toh soon coffee packs back and make at home.
Perfekt und modern, ideale Frühstückslocation. Guter Kaffee und fast französische Croissants. Der Tee kommt auch gut. Top!
Sedap giler! The level of spiciness is power and I love it. If you are not a spicy food lover or weak at tastebuds skip this. If you can take Indonesian sambals, Thai spicy food and South Korean crazy spicy noodles - this is right for you. And it’s good price for RM3. Recommended!

The puny eel in their unagi sandwich is the size of your pinky. It looks like a large piece when served because of the sides they’re presenting the sandwich. Luckily the tastes is fine.

Otherwise, the environment is quite acceptable and comfy, a wonderful place of chits-chats or just a peaceful breakfast. Serving speed can be a little slow. To give you an idea of the mediocrity here, my partner was glad her order did not get through so she could have room for Char Kuey Teow on the other side of the road.

It’s not bad, it’s just overpriced for the experience and lack any Penang taste/vibe.
Very local style coffee shop
I reached there before 0800h, not crowded

Love the Lor Bak.
Very good
The owner select a mix plate for 1 pax RM$6

Prawn noodles also RM$6. Normal
The Nasi Lemak kiosk at Sri Weld food court is a delectable delight at an affordable RM3, making it a standout in the market.
Despite recent price increases and government service tax, the owner's commitment to offering this flavorful dish at a reasonable cost deserves applause. This budget-friendly gem has rightly earned its place in the Michelin Star, showcasing not only culinary excellence but also a commendable gesture towards patrons who seek authentic, affordable Malaysian cuisine.
Various of choices to choose as combination - traditional anchovies with egg, fish, salted fish with egg, squid, prawn or chicken, all for the same price despite the ingredient.

Were early for breakfast around 7am. Managed to grab a table. The place already near full house. Yeah, car parking also lucky on Sunday morning 😂

Decent meetups for locals retired.
Cleanliness is acceptable. Workers quite hard working.

The foods... 🤤🤭 The heaps of fried lobak were appetizing as they are freshly fried and the color is beautiful.

Had lobak of mixed variety, fragrant sesame oil wan tan mee (only one piece of quarter mushroom? ), CKT (not bad). And cham si kosong.

Need to be early to have breakfast here. As we leave by 8am, the crowd start building up. Recommended.

The scrambled eggs and bread for the sandwiches were cold, but I expected the bread to be warmed at least. but the flavors were good and the ice matcha was really delicious. I don't like the idea of paper plates and plastic cutlery.. It's a small restaurant and I would recommend that they at least use porcelain or glass plates. At least you will protect the environment and have a nicer visual. And the tables need to be cleared before service

Mein Lieblings-Frühstückskaffee in George Town.

Preis-Leistung: 8/10
Geschmack: 9/10
Style: 10/10
Service: 7/10
