It is a great way to spend a few hours on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The castle is a real rabbit warren.

Well maintained and lovely castle. So many years have passed since its prime but it still provides a sense of what it may have been in its prime. Good amount of posted presentations to help understand the various aspects of the buildings.

Brilliant example of a medieval fortification with a small cafe and gift shop. Dog-friendly which is always a bonus.

My only gripe would be that there weren't many information boards knocking about.

Attended an Easter event here. The castle is stunning and the children enjoyed exploring and taking part in the egg hunt. Definitely worth a visit, it had rained a lot the day before so the grounds were very muddy and some parts of the castle were unsafe. Lovely picnic area with benches by the gift shop and a nice place for the children to run around. This is a dog friendly place.
Uneven terrain, muddy, lots of steps, narrow walkways (reception, toilets, gift shop) quite difficult with a pushchair.

It's a nice castle to explore but there is no path from the main entrance to the actual castle. You have to walk across the grass. Not ideal in the wet weather. Not great for disabled visitors. Great for kids to explore. Nice coffee shop/restaurant on site.

A great example of medieval architecture, great structure. Plenty of rooms to explore and some stairways to climb ( with care ) great views from the top of the castle. Dog Friendly ( dogs allowed on leads) Castle is privately owned. If the weather is wet or has been wet good footwear is required as the pathways do get muddy.

Even on an overcast February day, the views around, and from the top of the castle, are breathtaking.
It's not the biggest castle around (they're not building any more) but there is plenty to see and investigate for the relatively well priced entry fee.

Really interesting castle to visit even on a very wet day.Plenty of rooms to explore and steps to climb for views across the historic town.
Admission for Adults is £8 which seemed reasonable.Lady on reception is very knowledgeable and friendly.
