We had a lovely day out here at Elvaston castle and we are looking forward to returning soon to explore more of the area. Don't expect too much actual "castle" as the ruins are quite limited. The grounds are so beautiful and well maintained. There's an old stately home seen in the pictures I posted. Unfortunately it is closed to the public yet still lovely to look at from the outside. There's a café located in part of the main house downstairs that serves some lovely homemade cakes and snacks. The sausage rolls were awesome to be fair I would go again just to get one of their sausage rolls. Well worth a visit. You just pay to park and that's very reasonable. It's also a dog friendly place which was lovely seeing.
Looked after by South derbyshire Council, I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately when I went , there were a number of issues, most not down to who runs it. Currently there is still large areas flooding in the park including the car park , making it muddy and restricted in certain areas. Other issues mostly revolved around some ant social behaviour , including dog owners not picking up there dogs mess , littering and badly behaved children. The castle doesn't appear to be open though there is a cafe inside (not tested) . There is also a church on site which wasn't open . The grounds and gardens which could be nice, don't look there best , partly down to the weather but the parterre just looks a bit unkempt, all in all , its OK, but will revisit in summer to see how it looks then
Came here for a lovely walk on Monday, after much of the water from the rain we had went away. Some of the fields however, coming from the rear and the usual picnic area, were still flooded. However, it didn't stop the walk being a pleasant one. A really nice park to visit and walk around, great for picnics too when the weather is good. Haven't been to the cafe in a long time, so cannot comment on what the food etc is like. But from what I've seen previously, there have always been people sitting outside wherever it's been open. Look forward to coming here again in the future.
A very beautiful park which offers good facilities for children and adults. I visited during the drought of August so the grass looked yellow and the high temperature made it feel not so comfortable. This place has a lot of potential and it was sad to see the building in need of care. With some imagination and a lot of hard work this gem cab shine again. I hope the council focuses on the project and bring it to the glory it deserves. The lake was out of reach because of the bird flu. The manicured gardens need better accessibility and signs with its history could definitely help. Generally this could easily be a favourite place in East Midlands if there was more love thrown into it.
Visited here for the food and drink festival. Really was a fantastic day. Cost £6 for the entrance and we spent a small fortune on a few bits. A lot of the stalls excepted card payments which was lethal but helpful. We then walked one of the smaller trails. Great place for the family or to take the dogs. Very scenic.
