It was free on the day of our visit so I was really surprised. It’s both a very nice zoo with lots of animals and commodious spaces for them and a big park for walking. It’s an island of green in the city.
It is a big area, lots of animals and difficult to navigate in the park. Cleanliness is maintained and peaceful
Great day out when visiting Montpellier, easily accessible by public transport, free entry, nice enclosures for the animals and minimal commerce. There is a cafe, staff were lovely and food ok, but long queue at lunchtime.
Free entry, no wait. Nice walk. Bring a hat and water bottle and nice shoes. Animals seen. A great place to spend few hours
I am not a fan of the zoo, aquariums or any other places where any kind of animals get imprisoned. However, the Montpellier Lunaret park and zoo is a wide 80-hectare park with free entrance and the priority is to provide the best-simulated environment for animals that some of them are even endangered species. You can have a nice walk in nature and see some fantastic creatures along your path. There are two-three picnic places if you want to rest a bit. Also, there is a restaurant beside the zoo by the entrance for those who want to eat lunch or some snacks. You can spend a few hours or half a day in the zoo. By the way, you can go there by public transportation, there is a shuttle that you can take at tram 1 stop Université Sciences et Lettres to the Zoo (stop Zoo).
The reviews I had read were not the greatest for this zoo but we enjoyed our time there. We walked from the centre, which took about an hour.
A small cafe outside the zoo was ideal for a coffee break before going in.
Yes the animals are spaced out but that probably better for the animals. We saw many of the animals up close and it was a real treat to see the rhinos up close.
It’s free, so if you are looking to do something for a few hours then it’s worth it.
It is a big park with some animals. The zoo area is huge, so be prepared for a long walk and get enough water. Free entrance to a big part of the park was nice. Animals are free but well protected, and nicely kept in a natural environment, which is good. However they are hardly seen and the path does not have any trees that make shadow, which makes it hard to see it all in a single day in summer with so much sun. The restaurant is found only near the main entrance, we did not see any other are to eat or drink, so you need to carry water and some snacks. Signs are not so clear; sometimes we felt lost in the middle of nothing. In general, there is lots of room for improvement...
