Small rest area on the northbound side of the Hume Highway. Facilities include two unisex drop toilets, a couple of picnic benches and non-potable water, and a large grass area. Toilets were clean and well maintained. The exit back to the freeway is a bit dodgy - it’s a 90 degree left hander from a standing start into 110kmh traffic. Sight lines are good but you’ll want to floor it to get back on the road.
Narrow strip of parkland adjoining the Yarra River, close to Melbourne’s CBD. You can walk as far as you feel comfortable and then cross one of the many bridges and return via the other bank walking track. In addition to great views of the skyline there are public barbecues with views of the river.
Viewed from Burleigh Headland this is an impressive sight, it appears you can walk out along the rocks. Directly adjoins Tallebudgera beach. Food / drink a short drive away.
Offers amazing views up the coast towards Surfers Paradise however you’ll need to dodge the Instagrammers and others who have heard it’s the cool place to hang out. Keep walking around the corner to the national park for some amazing rainforest walks and lookouts that are less crowded. A short walk back to the main commercial area of Burleigh for food / drinks.
A short walk from the Burleigh Heads entry to the National park this lookout offers panoramic views up and down the coast as well as out to sea. During the winter months you’re likely to see whales as they migrate from Antarctica to warmer waters. The track is paved however there are quite a few steps and it is uneven in places, but definitely worthwhile. Refuel afterwards at one of the many cafes in Burleigh.
