A nice outing for adults: museum is simple but interesting if you're willing to read the signage. The outside recreation area is pretty, has river access, picnic tables and a kid play structure. There are public restrooms available both inside the museum and in a carriage house being the main house. Worth an afternoon if you're a local looking to explore. There are two parking areas at the entrance.

I visited to see about daycare for my kids - it looked like a happy place with staff smiling and taking time to interact and make the kids feel special. This is located in the basement of a church which was previously a school - so it's suitable for the daycare but is an older facility. There is a fenced in outdoor play area that is shaded by trees but has no grass in that area. There is a very long wait list for younger children given the scarcity of daycare in Madeira - so get on early if you'd like to use this place. They do offer part-time care, too, minimum 2 days per week, and at the prorated cost vs other daycares charge for the majority of the week anyway. While they do some basic curriculum this place is focused on play and family feeling - i have heard from other moms that this place is more of a basic daycare than a school but at the price and location and happy kids make it so suitable.

The Star of this week is the view - better views in daylight than dark - access to the roof before 6pm. Smaller groups can sit in tables made to highlight the view. The experience to get to this rooftop restaurant is also a joy by taking the escalators - this is like no other library you've ever seen. The parking is also somehow notable as the most beautiful underground lot I've ever seen. The food keeps up with the nice things so far... This is more on the gourmet side of things - it is a set menu with many courses so you only need to order drinks as a choice. Although the portions are smaller there are many plates and I found everyone was quite satisfied. This had a lounge feel so great for friends or dates....I would not say it's for kids.
