Nice country restaurant in the village of Bodenheim in the vicinity of Mainz. The food is very much German "gute bürgerliche Küche," which is sort of the German equivalent of comfort food, lots of Schnitzels, sausage, Spätzle, and potatoes cooked in a variety of ways. I recommend the mini Rösti, small round potato latkes of Swiss origin. They, together with a Schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce and a good glass of wine, makes my (German) heart beat faster. Lots of locals visit the place, too, which is usually a good sign!
In spring, summer, and fall there ist also outside patio service.

Syrian-lebanese restaurant with very good middle-eastern food. Great place to share one of the 12 or more item selections on the menu. The drink service is a bit slow, and some items on the drink list aren't actually available. Otherwise, no complaints.

Very informative museum by the banks of the river Ill about everything of importance in Alsatian history. Each room is dedicated to a different facet of Alsatian home and business life. It also includes good information about the various religious communities and practices present in Alsace for centuries, first Christianity and Judaism, and then later the split of Christianity into Catholic, Protestant, and Lutheran factions, with Strasbourg also being a center of the Reformation. The museum is spread out over three old houses and many storeys with balconies and courtyards. It was a pleasure to explore it all.

Large plaza on the side of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Many pilgrims and visitors congregate there and on the steps leading up to the upper part of town. It's a very relaxing environment.

Nice semi-outdoors pub/sports bar near the main Cologne soccer stadium; food available: burgers & fries, pasta, salads, etc. More than just bar food but less than full-service restaurant.
