This castle is a 20-25 minute drive from Den Haag. The estate is located in Voorschoten. During the winter months, the castle museum is not open. However, Musica Antica holds baroque music concerts on the premises and one has access to two of the rooms in the castle.
The rooms are ornate with intricate patterned ceilings and large-scale paintings hanging on the wall. The floor-to-ceiling windows give a stunning view of the estate grounds and lake.
The estate itself also has a restaurant, a small farm area and a pasture. There are many walking paths, both paved and gravel, for longer hikes or walks. One can push a stroller, wheelchair or walker on the paved paths.
The parking lot is paid at times when the museum is open. In the winter months parking is free. The paths are open year-round for walking and exercise.
This is child-friendly and family-friendly. It is a beautiful environment to be enjoyed at any age.

A spacious building filled with light that houses a restaurant, offices, archives and a changing art exhibit.
This is the main building open for residents to transact business with the city. It also handles immigration and drivers license applications.
Personnel are friendly and service is quick if you book an appointment in advance. Take a number from the machines and wait for the number to appear on the digital screens. Personnel are nearby to assist.
Large benches serve as waiting areas for residents waiting for the next available employee. The building is also next to the main library. Overall, my visits here have been positive.

The Kloosterkerk is one of the emblematic buildings in The Hague and is a must see. This church is a protestant community that worships here each Sunday. The community is also involved in artistic initiatives, periodically offering photo and art exhibitions. They also hold choir and organ concerts. The multi-church mid week service takes place here every first and third Wednesday at 12:45. Music is played by church musicians or other invitees during the lunch pause moment. The church is open to the public on Monumenten Dag and they offer interesting activities such as learning Gregorian chant techniques. Worth a visit even if only to admire the vaulted ceiling and the stained glass windows with the twelve apostles.
The church is open for visits on Saturdays. I stopped in and photographed a few interesting objects, including historical Bibles and the inside of the mechanism that ran the tower clock. Fascinating! A friendly church member explained the history of the building. It began as a Catholic Church built in the Romanesque style in the 1240s. Later it was transformed into a much bigger structure using Gothic features. There is a small window now covered with bricks. The window was opened to allow contagious lepers to listen to the church service without coming into contact with the worshippers. Today around one hundred or so people worship each Sunday. They also have organ and choir concerts.
