For the first time here at Il Palagio. I have to say, this is not my first gourmet restaurant, and most of the times I have been quite disappointed. Usually it's all hype and no substance.
At Il Palagio, I have to say that I was very impressed and VERY pleased, from beginning till the end. The courses came quickly, just as I would expect from a restaurant of this quality (in some gourmet restaurants, I had to wait for 1 hour per course).
The service was impeccable, friendly, speedy, with a fantastic wine selection.
Some pre-course dishes were....interesting. One bite was salty, the next sweet.
We had a five course meal, and each course was absolutely delicious.
And a special mention for the dessert. We were already so full that we decided to cancel the dessert course and we only wanted one dessert to share for the four of us. The dessert that came, however, was some kind of cinnamon parfait with paper-thin slices of apple and celery. Frankly, I detest celery, but this dessert was pure art, both by aesthetics and i n c r e d i b l e taste.
Of course it is pricey, but what do you expect from a restaurant of this quality?
From my side, I would rate it an honest and absolute 5 out of 5!
