Haneda Airport

Beautiful, well-managed airport. Extremely clean and well-kept! All of the information kiosks are fully-staffed with knowledgeable people. I did not have trouble finding anything at all. Just know that if you're traveling from outside of Japan the only ATMs that will take your non-Japanese cards are going to be the 7 Bank (7-11) ATMs which are located in multiple places!

There's so many good food options, fancy stores once you get past security, and helpful people and amenities everywhere. There's even showers for long-haulers. I love the lockers because I was able to store my backpack while I went out to explore during my long layover. The only problem with this is that you can only pay with coins so I went and bought a few things to get change. Not a big deal. It was super cheap and useful!

The train and monorail both run through here and can take you into town. Great cheap and quick options for those of you that don't have a bunch of luggage. The staff is really helpful in getting you booked and to your destination.

I also accidentally fell asleep at my departure gate with headphones in and the staff made sure to wake me up and get me on my plane! Amazing customer care!
I like this airport. All the art work throughout makes it really interesting. I've taken a hotel shuttle here and have been dropped off/picked up by friends and Über. There's quite a bit of construction going on on the lower level where ground transportation is located so we saw quite a few people get lost. There were not enough signs to direct people. As for getting through security, TSA check is normally pretty seamless. I've always had pleasant interactions with staff here. Once you get through to the gates there's more than enough variety of shopping, dining, imbibing, miscellaneous activity, etc. There are also options for every age group. I definitely agree that there's not enough seating at the gates but I'm generally fine standing up or waiting at the next gate. Overall, my experiences at BNA have been decent.
Airport Terminal 2

I stayed at the capsule hotel in Terminal 2 during my layover. The convenience stores were open 24 hours so that was nice for all of the things I needed but forgot. Tons of ATMs all over the place as well as money exchange machines. Please note that if you use an automated machine they usually only take Chinese and Japanese currency. I also got on the MRT here to get into the city. It's easier to take the elevator all the way down to the MRT instead of switching onto the various autowalks. But, it wasn't a problem. If anything this airport is all about convenience!

The ticketing process was simple. I did not use the automated kiosks but went to a live teller instead. I got a full day pass knowing I'd probably enter/exit through the wrong gates and need to go back. If you just get an entry and exit ticket then you'll have to pay extra fare if you go the wrong way. It was a dollar more than a single roundtrip ticket so it was worth it to me. Plus, you get a cute card to recharge if needed. The staff spoke English when I came through so that was really helpful. There are also screens once you get through the gates that tell you when the next train is arriving.

There are a few wireless charging stations on the MRT. My pass was only good for the airport line. Keep in mind that if you need to get on a train going to other parts of the city, additional fare may be required. I took the Express train (purple line) which only makes 5 stops. It saved time!
