It was a horrible experience. We booked the boat for 5 hours, reduced it to 3 but requested to turn back 30 minutes into the journey.
For a journey we embarked on full of excitement that quickly unfolded to become terrifying and an uncomfortable experience. Firstly, the crew that met us on the boat were unprofessional, untrained and not fit for purpose. As a seasoned traveller I have been on yachts and had expected to be greeted by a captain and crew members. We had a scruffy looking driver, not professionally dressed. We were received by 1 crew member who disappeared as soon as we arrived on board and never bothered to welcome us, show us around the boat or make us feel welcome. She was well dressed but her poor communication skills added to making our journey uncomfortable.
Our sail time was 6pm which meant that we left the dock in the dark and could see nothing in the direction the boat was heading. We noticed the boat stopped about 25 mins into the journey and asked the driver why. He said he had anchored the boat and this was where he has to terminate the journey until it is time to go back to where the journey started, after 5 hours. We asked him what we are supposed to be doing in the pitch dark sea. His response sent chills down our spine. He suggested that we could jump down for a swim. At that point we knew we were sent to sea with someone with no concept of safety and no regard for the safety of the passengers. Added to this through out the journey at no point were we shown the life jackets or given any safety information. It was shocking. For people who came for a jolly adventure trip on sea with kids had to make the responsible decision to turn the boat around immediately.
I was not pleased that after my request to turn the boat around it took about 30 mins for the boat to be finally turned around. It was a very scary 30 minutes cos everything around us was just dark. My question to the tour operator is why send a family to the sea in pitch darkness? I picked the time but it is irresponsible to send people out to the sea where there is nothing to see or do at that time of the night. We were staying at a hotel that has a beach with lots of water activities and also noticed the at after 6 there are no boats moving on water which I have now learnt o be a safety measure.
Going on a cruise or boat is supposed to be a memorable experience. I wont forget this experience in a heart beat but for all the wrong reasons. I feel cheated by this company. I had a lovely holiday in Doha but this experience tainted my overall experience.
