Stunning historic building from the 19th century. Apparently it was bombed during the war, but the external area survived and the internal area was rebuilt in a lovely modern style. It is beautiful inside and out. At night the area around is lit up by beautiful street lamps.

The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English (as mein Deutsche is a bit sketchy). We visited in April '23 and booked to see West Side Story - with an American cast. Fabulous show. Well worth visiting the Alte Oper as they have a great schedule of events and performances.

You can drinks inside of course, but there are many restaurants and places to get a drink in the immediate area.

My Frankfurt is not far from our son's flat, just a 5 minute walk. He comes here often so he took us there on the day of our arrival from the UK.

The waiter was super friendly, as he knew my son. We had great service throughout the meal and drinks.

My Pfefferspeiss was done to perfection. Delicious and succulent. My wife had the Duroc Kotolette which was amazing also. 5 out of 5 for the food. So good.

The atmosphere was great. Buzzing. Lots of people dressed nicely for their meal out (sadly unlike in the UK).

The only negative I would say is that the 'modern' music was too loud for a restaurant. .. there were also some slightly annoying young ladies at the table next to us who kept getting up and going somewhere every few minutes, at least 10 to 12 times !

Food was great ... highly recommended.
