A fun outing for us during our travels is visiting National Register of Historic Places. While recently in the DC area, we were invited to join family on an outdoor excursion. What a pleasant surprise to discover friendly Fredericktown! We learned of the efforts by the Frederick County Government to see the town thrive. We had no prior knowledge that the Sassafras River at Fredericktown would be such a tourist attraction with fun displays and happenings.
It was so pleasant walking the historic streets, seeing people out greeting one another, construction crews repairing older buildings, sweepers keeping the sidewalks clean and in good order. We loved seeing the beautiful red brick dwellings and window-shopped to take in the quaint ecommerce district.
It's clear that careful thought and pride is being taken to maintain the area's historic value.
We stopped for “all-natural”, freshly made ice cream as the day was sunny and pleasant. The Frederick Fudge & Ice Cream Co. is very good and the staff had great things to say! But then decided to warm up with a nice cup of coffee. A Bubble Tea & Coffee was perfect. I had nice hot coffee while other in my party tried its Bubble Teas and loved them! The interior is totally charming with cozy booths; and from the exterior, seeing people sipping tea in the window bays is most romantic and enticing.
We nearly missed it as our GPS was directing us to Market Street Boba & Beans.
There is a nice mix of modern shops, parks, and walking paths. We’re delighted to see the town gain some grants and be a growing local economy. People we met out and about were so delightful and helpful with suggestions, we even tossed thoughts among us of what a great place this would be to live.
Plans are already brewing to go back and try out the Fish Whistle and Jefas Mexican Grill.
