I decided to visit the church on a weekday. It was closed. I tried all the doors. All locked. A priest in the garden shouted at me in an unfriendly manner: "What are you doing?"
What I was supposed to reply? What does an old lady want to do in a church? Rob the church? Paint a graffiti on the wall? Take a nap?
The church building might be closed for many reasons, including vandalism, but the priest should make anyone feel welcome in the house of God, even if it is just in the church outdoor grounds. The church is not the priest’s property.
What if I were someone who was suffering, who needed some help? Did he ask? Did he care why I wanted to pray? He just went on a rant about the reason why the church was locked.
The exchange was made terribly upset and I am still not over from the shock of being treated that way.
This is not how a person should be treated by anyone, especially by a man in frock.
