A huge sprawling museum with loads or Chinese and international artifacts. It's a modern and spacious layout with loads to see, you'll want to get there early in the day to be able to enjoy the all exhibits at a relaxed pace.

The museum is free but you will need to book tickets via WeChat, as entries are managed to prevent overcrowding. Make sure to bring some water if it's hot, as the queues can be quite loong even with a timeslot booked.

For tourists like myself, have your passport handy as you'll need it for ID when getting in, also note that upon entry everyone gets a quick bag search and scan for security.
The museum was not open according to its official opening schedule. No explanations or information given

Visited in November 2023. Fantastic journey into history - as expected from a top 3 museum in China - the quantity and quality of exhibits transports one back in time.

Mandatory to reserve in advance though it’s free. Booked tickets via WeChat app mini program. Be patient - if it doesn’t work / go through first time, try again (as with many China based apps - persistence pays off).

Security checks to enter premises are efficient. All national Monuments close on Monday so plan around this.
First,it's free, but you need to make a reservation, I used Wechat. It's very big, I didn't see everything.
A really good place for people who wants to learn about the evolution of life on earth. Definitely worth a visit!
Went there on 14 Nov, appointment is needed, you can do via WeChat, very convenient in China. This museum is super huge comparing to the very few museums I went to. You can easily spend half a day there. I was in rush, if I have the chance to revisit Beijing, I would definitely go back to learn more about the arts, history and culture. 🫶🏻🇨🇳

An extremely popular museum and you need to book a ticket before entering. For anything popular in Beijing I would book at least a week in advance. We found places were booked out 3 days in advance even during quieter times.
Great variety of Chinese history, make sure you book a time slot, lots of security procedures, gifts are fun to get from here

Book via wechat 7 days in advance otherwise you won't get tickets at all, this place is very popular with the locals too. Recommend to start from the exhibition at the basement, where they exhibit in accordance with the history/dynasty line of China. Incredible bronze and other artfacts items from more than 3000years ago are just presented right in front of your eyes... I m total overwhelmed... better to search for information of items that you might interested to witness before hand otherwise you might be bombarded with artifacts while lost in information/translation.

There is a dining area on the basement floor, but possibly due to exihibition-safty concern only cold/dry food (like cold noodles in sesame sauce) was offered, so maybe you can pack your own sandwiches or snacks to eat inside canteen area.

Visiting time for us was 4-5hours FYI.
