Wonderful place to learn about
Devon/Dorset, England, military regiments & their history. It can be helpful in locating family ancestors.
Small museum with some good fossils to see. A bit of history about the Jurassic coast and Dorset in general.

The museum is in 2 floors and there is a small gadget shop.
Fantastic little museum took bout hr and half to c everything. Staff happy answer Questions and give facts. Really enjoyed and it's completely free 👍
Worth to visit!

The museum appears small, but it is actually quite large!
I was surprised that the thing from the pandemic already became museum pieces here 🥹
This museum was lovely. There was lots of information and artifacts from the history of Edinburgh, some donated from private collections by local, (some prominent) citizens. I enjoyed the pottery, ceramics, housewares, a bit of clothing, military artifacts, etc.
The museum is an aggregation of old buildings that the museum has acquired over time. The buildings themselves are just fascinating.
There is a wonderful exhibit, including the original proposal map of "New Town" Edinburgh and a video about the development, which I found quite interesting.
Edinburgh has these little gem FREE museums--take advantage of them.
Free museum telling the story of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Worth a visit.
Interesting museum dedicated to the history of Edinburgh with free entry. It's looks smaller from the outside, but it actually has a lot of rooms to explore. They also have a small gift shop however staff wasn't that friendly.
There is a large variety of exhibits. However, the building needs more maintenance and some renovation. It's quite an old building, and there was a distinctive smell that was unpleasant.
Small museum but well worth a visit. History lesson that everyone should experience.
I went to this museum because the Real Mary King's Close was sold out and I had some extra free time on my hands that day. The entrance is free and it exceeded my expectations! I especially enjoyed some unique pieces and collections of ceramics.
On a recent trip to Dorset, my eldest son and I decided to visit the keep one afternoon when the weather was dismal.

We spent a good few hours exploring the exhibitions which were very informative and interesting.

There are loads of mannequins dressed in period clothes and uniforms, all of which added to the realism.

I would highly recommend it.
Das Museum ist eher für Kleinkinder gedacht, wenig was Erwachsene interessieren könnte. Der Kaffee schmeckt dafür gut 👍
We had a great visit to the salt works. Mike took us round on a very comprehensive tour. He has a clear understanding of the business, history, industry, site and the renovations. This was clear as he didn’t have a script and tailored his commentary to our interests and knowledge.
The displays are very well presented and there’s loads to entertain the kids.
Thank you.
Really great museum with great friendly staff. Some fantastic displays on multiple levels all about the Dorset regiments. I'm biased as I really like uniforms but I love the uniforms with all the relative props from the era, such a great way to display the history.
It's over 5 floors and short of the battlements with great views across Dorchester, every floors packed.
I especially loved the gift shop as it wasn't extortionate like some museums so it's affordable to give the kids a reward. There's also some great interactive displays from handling real deactivated guns, battle table with soldiers, brass rubbing and colouring.
Love this museum! Well done
Eclektische Auswahl von Kunst aus England und anderen Nationen. Leider nicht so Nutzer-Freundlich ohne Garderobe.
Brilliant museum, lots of things for the kids, and an amazing kids library area ❤️❤️❤️

Great displays well set out worth a visit nice to see child friendly areas
As a former soldier, I found The Keep interesting but a bit dull. Not much for children. Best bit was the roof view.
Fantastic but little-known museum, which is located only 400 metres from Holyrood House, at the less popular end of Canongate (Royal Mile). The museum offers an insight into the history of Edinburgh in an interesting and informative way. For those lovers of Bobby (isn't everyone), they actually have his dog-collar and water bowl on display. The museum is free to enter, but donations are appreciated. There is also a small but interesting gift shop. Don't miss it.
Smaller than expected, lots of fibreglass models but enough real bones, fossils and facts to keep it interesting. Took about an hour to do in total including the quiz they have us on entry. Overall. Recommend
Really nice place and to understand past.
Well worth visiting! A lovely museum with much more inside than first appears. Downstairs the rooms are themed and it's like stepping into history. The upstairs gallery has a timeline of history in Richmondshire with some wonderful objects 😊
Superb Military Museum, hundreds of interesting artefacts. Really well laid out, covering mainly Dorset and Devon regiments in all their theatre's of war. Highly recommend a visit and the views from the roof are excellent. Good value for money, a nice little shop and free parking. We went midweek, no queues, no problem seeing all the exhibits.
Children loved the crafts, also enjoyed the museum it was just a shame that alot of the mechanics around the museum weren't working. A bit disappointing when your paying what u pay to get in. They could also do with a separate till for the shop as it took a while to get served because of the young lad having to wait for another person to finish with customers paying to get in. Other than that a nice place to visit
Terrible. We took all of the children to the science event in Feb half term, stood there for 30 mins and no one came to us. We had to ask 4 times what the activity was. Then we were told they had no batteries or copper left. Absolutely so badly organised. We came half way through so there should have been materials left. Children utterly disappointed. They shouldn’t put these events on if they can’t be run properly.
It's a small museum, but we really enjoyed our visit. With exact sized replicas of the warriors and details of they come to be with a film to watch about the first emperor. The staff were really nice aswell.
Excellent displays and brilliant view of Dorchester 10/10 definitely will be coming back again.
Free entrance!

I definitely recommend the museum to all who want to explore explicitely the history of the city more. It is much larger than it looks like from the outside and contains details on Canongate but also the whole of Edinburgh. Also more details on Bobby including his collar can be found in the museum.

The yard with additional objects is not open in winter
We've all heard about the Tolpuddle Martyrs but have only a vague knowledge about the actualitè. The information here clarifies the issues, and given that the museum is in their village, and the immediate area is still very rural you get a real sense of place. I enjoyed the visit, and the walk around the village.
The Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse - A great old building that celebrates the various industries in Cheshire

What is the Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse?

The Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse is a museum that is located in Northwich, Cheshire. There is a partial
workhouse with a museum that emphasises the different industries that played a key role in the lives of people that lived in Cheshire. This included salt making, coal mining, ship-yards, and the Police.

This museum holds a number of temporary and permanent exhibitions that take place throughout the year.

On the Ground Floor there is a small cinema for an introductory video, temporary exhibition space and the partial workhouse.

On the top floor there is the different exhibitions about some of the important industries that played a significant role to the people of Cheshire.

Exhibitions Visited

All Our Stories

This exhibition is an empowering one that highlights the challenges that people face whom have learning disabilities. This group of people held a play. This small exhibition is playful, interactive and engaging. The props on show were lovely and unique. They helped to tell the story. This consisted of Gruel which is old food that has oats. There was also a bowl and spoon. In addition there was a bell to determine the time.

There was a dress up corner with a great variety of clothes and hats that you can wear and try on. The material was lovely but it was heavy at the same time.

The Workhouse

The introductory video in the cinema was good. It gave you a short insight into the lives of people that lived at the workhouse all those years ago.

A partial one is still part of this building. It was great knowing that people were segregated based on sex, age and other factors. Learning about school life was interesting. It was cute seeing the letters of the alphabet and the times tables. It gave it a true school vibe. There was also a desk for the headteacher or teacher to stand behind with a old device for writing as pens and pencils were not used at that time.

Permanent Exhibitions

These exhibitions were informative and inspiring. They celebrated many industries that were significant to the people that lived in Cheshire.

I loved how open plan it was where each small area had enough information that was not too much with great pictures that were eye catching. The range of objects relating to industries such as Salt making, Coal mining and the Police were enticing too. It was also great learning about working conditions and pay of the workers at that time.

It was great that these industries were explained in different means including art, objects and videos which made the experience an engaging one.

Entry and Admission

You are not required to book online however you will be required to pay on arrival in order to enter the museum.

For pricing details then check out the museum’s website for further information.

Facilities

The Weaver Hall and Workhouse has a Tea Room with the library. They serve Tea and Coffee with a selection of biscuits. If that is not your thing then there are some cafes nearby.

Toilets are on site.

Lighting and Access

The lighting at this museum was decent throughout most areas apart from the small cinema room downstairs for the video. This allowed me to use all my senses to have a fulfilling experience which also helped to understand the themes and information discussed with the various objects.

In relation to access then there is a small step in order to enter the building. There are stairs or a lift to access the exhibitions on the top floor.

Parking

The Weaver Hall and Workhouse has its own designated car park that also has disabled bays for those whom have a Blue Badge.

If you love learning about the workhouse life and the different industries in an informative, interactive and engaging way then come and visit the Weaver Hall and Workhouse for a great day out.

Step into the historic Bank of Scotland Head Office, where this museum isn't just about money – it's a wild ride through history, art, design, tech, crime, trade, and security! And guess what? The entrance is on the house... Free! 🏦💰
The Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester, close to Dorset's Jurrassic Coast is the only museum in the UK solely devoted to dinosaurs. See dinosaur skeletons, walk among life-size reconstructions including Stegosaurus and T-Rex, and learn through hands-on interactive displays too. Enhance your visit with free fun sheets to win a Dino Hunters Achievement Certificate.
Great experience at the museum. We were able to store our pram at reception. Cool little museum and not too crowded! Higly recommend stopping by if you're around the area. We made sure to take pics at the back of the Museum through Bakehouse close.
Kostenlos.
Ist nicht gross, aber lohnen tut es.
Gerne wieder
Leider waren einige Abteilungen wegen Umbauarbeiten geschlossen. Dennoch sehenswert.
A quaint interesting museum about life in Richmond. Very informative. Things for the kids to do aswell. A bonus for James Herriot fans there's the original set from the BBC program
