A very rewarding and enjoyable experience. The volunteers were friendly and informative and brought colour to the house and its builder, Henrietta Howard, as well as providing the background and context to her life.
Audley end house and gardens make a great day out. Attended the ww2 weekend which was absolutely brilliant and would certainly come again next year. And to get away from all the crowds, the grounds are quite something too.

Beautiful art deco house and gardens with interesting much older baronial hall from Henry V111's era. Parking available, helpful staff & tasty food in the cafe. A great day out.
A quintessential stately home set in Capability Brown landscaping. English Heritage have done very good job with the conservation and balanced our a accesss to the house so we can best enjoy it. Brilliant.
Audley End makes a gentle day out. Plenty of room to stroll and enjoy some scenery. If you need some greenery and ducks it's perfect! We really enjoyed the gardens in spring.
The house is interesting, especially if you like classic portraits. But the more curious things are explained to you by the staff. Worth asking!
Only downside was the price for refreshments. Plenty of room for picnics tho.
10/10. A bit pricey but worth to pay the entrance fee and visit the magnificent interior of the house along with the outside rooms and gardens which are really big and so beautiful, looked after. Had an amazing day out in there and you can also have a cuppa and some snacks or food :)

A most amazing and unique multi millionaire's fantasy home rebuilt from the ruins of a medieval and later Tudor palace. The palace is incredible and the gardens are wonderful. Worth joining English Heritage for this and so many other amazing properties and locations.

Elegant Georgian house, designed in the Palladian style by Henrietta Howard and situated within an area of open parkland.
The house was used to entertain guests including Horace Walpole and Alexander Pope (who also played a part in designing the gardens). After Henrietta's death, the estate was eventually sold to the Cunard family who intended to redevelop the site for housing. However, an Act of Parliament was passed in 1902 to protect the property, preserving the view from Richmond Hill.
The original contents of the house were largely lost after the sale, however, period correct decoration and furnishings are present throughout. Friendly and knowledgeable guides are on hand throughout the house to explain more about these and answer any questions, which really enhances the experience.
Entry to the house is free, and there's a parking lot on site which offers 3 hours free for English Heritage members. Other facilities include a café, small gift shop and toilets in the house and stable block.
This is a remarkable building which has been incredibly preserved to give visitors a real taste of history. Once visited it becomes clear why it is one of the jewels in the English Heritage collection. There are many well furnished rooms to look around and a decent tea room to relax in. The gardens seemed to be quite decent but I didn't have time to tour them properly. The one part I did try to visit, the walled garden, was unfortunately closed.
The main reason I have not been able to award this place the full five stars is because of their ban on photography in the main house. I can understand there being no flash photography but no photography at all seems excessive. I am aphantasic which means I can't picture images in my mind so photos are really important to me as a memory. No photos means I have no real memory of the building at all which is a huge disappointment. I would strongly encourage English Heritage to look again at this ban to see if it can be relaxed.
Apart from that it is a wonderful place that I would encourage anyone to visit.

Haven't visited this location for about 10yrs. Facilities have developed a great deal. There is now a visitor centre with cafe and large outdoor play area adjacent. Good selection of food at reasonable prices. There are two sets of toilets, one in the house and one in the visitor centre. Both have disability access, as does the cafe and the house. Almost all of the gardens are accessible for pushchair/wheelchair.
Lovely Sunday program with kids. They have tours that talk you through the medieval history of the palace. A hidden gem in south-east London, full of history and joy. There's a lovely garden with playground for the little ones, book shop, gift shof a great cafe.with reasonable prices and food choices. Highly recommended for families.
Really lovely English Heritage property. Beautiful grounds and plenty to do for children including playground and a nursery with toys and dressing up items. Riders stop horses so children can stroke them.

An absolutely fascinating and interesting place to visit.
The Tudor hall is very grand topped by the magnificent hammer beam roof, and also stained glass windows.
The house is grand in a different way, also magnificent, but for the art deco throughout, and so modern for the 1930's.
All well curated and the recommended route around makes sure you see everything.
Don't forget to wander around the gardens.
So wonderful to see, and the tour guides were awesome! We watch The Victorian Way, and it was a delight to see where the magic happens! So pleased it's been opened for the public! We will be back!
This was a really enjoyable rainy day out. Lovely walking around and learning the history of the family and their grand home. Met one of the horses close up and got to ask questions about him. My girls played in the little park. Not much in the way of lunch choices, and really long queues but we did get to the restaurant late. We would love to return in the summer to enjoy the grounds more.

It's currently free because of the refurbishment by English Heritage. Worth a visit. The staff in the house are friendly helpfull and funny. There is a small fee for parking. There is also a cafe nearby.
Very interesting to visit. Lovely park and river walk
