Hopeless! I visited this restaurant out of nostalgia, remembering how it used to be a top-notch place where people had to wait in line to get a table. Unfortunately, it has drastically declined. The service is terrible, the cleanliness is nonexistent, and I even saw rats running around. There is no longer beach access; instead, there's a large fence with a garbage collection area full of plastic bottles next to it. The hotel staff seems clueless about cleaning, and the waiters lack basic hospitality skills. The only competent and presentable waiter I encountered was Shamika. It's also disorganized, as there are no table assignments for waiters—I was served by four different people. They don’t even offer 500 ml water bottles. The kitchen staff clearly doesn’t know how to prepare basic dishes. Attached is a photo of my devilled dish, which looks like random vegetables dumped in tomato sauce.

We had a wonderful experience in ocean restaurant. We got Baked crab, passion & mint mocktail and creamy cheese macaroni.. all are in good taste. Baked crab & mocktail were the best!! Very yummy... Good atmosphere! Thank you the team specially Mr. Malshan & Ms.Nipuni for nicely arranged a surprise cake for our birthday celebration too.

Essen ok. Aber Vorsicht: es gibt keine richtige Karte mit Preisen. Preise für Sri Lanka viel zu teurer.

They have a wide range of foods. The food is fresh and tasty. But expensive.
The place is good for gatherings too.

Lovely food, great service. I had red snapper, very fresh and tasty. My husband had prawns which he said were delicious and fresh.

Sehr schlechtes Essen, sehr wenig ,sehr teuer.Die french fries waren kalt und nicht fertig gebacken, das Gemüse schlapp und aus dem Tiefkühler, vielleicht hätte der Koch Urlaub??

I had an exceptional lunch at Oceans so much so I went back the next day for dinner. Restaurant has a great view of the pool and very modern.

The seafood was super fresh and well priced for what you get.

Staff were very attentive and great advice on what to order.

Highly recommend you will not be disappointed

Sehr gutes Essen - es gibt viel mit Fisch und auch vegetarische Optionen. Die Kellner sind sehr bemüht und lieb. Würden definitiv wieder kommen!

All their food was amazingly delicious. The servers greeted us and even served us by pouring the food to each of our plates and poured us water.

So everything was perfect until something happened 😂😅 after we finished the dinner and paid for the meals, the server was checking the book receipt in front of us and showed us disappointment look, he was closing the book receipt with a rough gesture and cleaning our table (again) while we’re still sitting there. It’s because we didn’t put any tip for them. It was our last night in Colombo, and we didn't have a lot of spare cash with us. It’s fine to hope to have a tip but never expect or even force it, we saw there was a service charge, so basically we have no obligation to give a tip.

Our experience at The Ocean restaurant in Kingsbury Hotel was exceptional, thanks to Mr. Mangala and Mr. Pasindu’s outstanding service. They ensured our comfort from the moment we arrived . Their attention to detail and promptness in managing our order, including freshly prepared seafood at the live counter, made our dining experience truly enjoyable. This restaurant has been our go to place for seafood & they never disappoint. Additionally, they happily catered to our daughter’s needs, preparing the food exactly the way she likes it. We highly recommend The Ocean for its delicious food ,impeccable service & genuine care for their customers. Thank you, for making our visit memorable! Looking forward to dining in again.

It was my best birthday memory in Sri Lanka.Everything is delicious and the service is great.Especially, udesha's recommended creamy lobster and dessert were exquisite.I forget their names, but the other staff members were also very kind.I'll go again😊

Natürlich sind auch hier russisch sprachige Touris..aber die Inhaber sind auf deutsche und englische Gäste eingestellt.

Ein kleines typisches Lokal in Sri Lanka mit frischen Prowns und anderen frischen Sea Food Gerichten. Sehr zu empfehlen!!! Wir waren hier gerne zum Abendessen. Ich hoffe das Lokal wird weiterbestehen , da es hier in der Straße das einzige ist.

the food was ok. the concept is that you go up and order your fresh fish at the counter. none of the waiters explained the concept to us and we had to ask ourselves.

I got lobster with curry and my girlfriend got a prawn curry. the taste was good but there was a lack of spices. You could barely taste that there was salt in the food.

the wine list is good, we ordered two glasses of Hugel Gewurztrauminer (tasted good as always). But their drinks are nothing special to go for…

Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet und der Service ausgesprochen herzlich und bemüht. Auch wenn das Lokal sehr klein ist, wirkt es einfach typisch für SriLanka.

Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Das Essen ist super köstlich. Sind schon das zweite Mal zum Essen hergekommen. Nur zum Empfehlen!

Sea Fish is a restaurant that started out in 1969 and was situated at Gall Face, apparently at the same site where the Taj Samudra now stands. It’s a family business that has been handed down through 4 generations. The fact that an eatery has survived so long warrants a visit and that is why it was on my “to do” list. Walking into the restaurant there are well appointed tables with a predominantly blue theme (even the napkins). The servers were eager that I order drinks, but I politely declined.

I ordered the fried breaded Seer Fish (2600 LKR). It came with a small salad, a small amount of French fries (that seemed reheated) and tartar sauce (that really needs some serious work). So I ordered, more French fries (1200 LKR), really? The fish (two small steaks), were flaky, tasty with a good texture and bite. Right through the meal, there were serious flies hovering around my food. I made a comment to the server and he just nodded his head. Nobody seemed to care. My original plan was to order the lobster. So glad I did not.

Which ever country I am in, I am always on the quest for a good lobster dish. Not surprising then, that I ended up at Ocean, the seafood restaurant at the Kingsbury, in Colombo. I had arrived without a reservation, so after a brief wait and some arm twisting, I got a corner table right by the entrance. Oh well. Beggars cannot be choosers :). While the place was crowded and the seating limited, it had a good vibe, which is enhanced when you see their spread of fresh seafood on ice. They have it all (see my pictures). Diners go to the display and select what they wish to eat. And guess what, there are 40 different ways to cook your fancy, in cuisines that cover Indian, Thai, Chinese, Italian, Continental, Japanese and Sri Lankan. I chose a 0.73 kg lobster to be prepared in a tempered Sri Lankan style (with onions, chilies, etc), The preparation of the dish was unique, intense in taste, and took me to another place. It was very spicy, and should have been toned down so that the cooking style itself does not bury the taste and flavor of most of the lobster bites. For dessert, I asked for chocolate biscuit pudding. It was not on the menu, but the server obliged and got it from another restaurant at the hotel. It was tough, cold, hardly layered, too sweet and a disappointment. Service overall, was superb.

So I did go back for lobster again, but was keen on having it grilled with garlic butter and let me tell you it was the best grilled lobster I have ever had…. the meat was so tender like it was poached, even though it was grilled very succulent, juicy with intense flavor literally melting in your mouth, but with robust texture. Wow, this was really an amazing experience. So much so that I asked the manager to bring out the Chef (Damith Jayatileka) from the back, and I congratulated him for a perfectly prepared dish. See my pictures. I went back again on another day, and this time chose to have the grilled King Prawns with garlic butter and insisted chef Damith prepare it. Once again, a masterpiece of presentation, flavor, texture, and taste. See my pictures. Before that, Oysters Rockefeller with garlic toast was fantastic. Dessert was baked Alaska also pretty good. I will be going back, hopefully more than once, to have the lobster, as well as the king prawns, again. Wow.

Direkt zwei Mal hier essen gewesen. Einmal zu Abend und am nächsten Mittag, als die anderen Restaurants uns nicht zugesagt haben. Sehr leckeres Essen, wenn man will, auch nicht scharf. Die Portionen sind großzügig. Sehr freundliches Personal und man sitzt sehr angenehm in der ersten Etage. Meine persönliche Empfehlung: Das vegetable Korma.

我觉得这个地方很棒啊， 能在这么一个不靠近马路并不显眼的角落，开店超过54年肯定有他的口碑。酒水饮料都没比路边摊高多少，我来帮衬，即使遇到不同的服务生和领班，他们都非常热情且有礼貌。我认为在这个价格和这个环境上得到的回报是非常有性价比的。有些人给的评分低，也许是语言沟通导致的认知障碍。 I highly recommend this place .Its like a huge hidden Pearl in the sea. They amazingly keep running business in this place for over 54 years . respect

Weiterempfehlung! Wir hatten das Chicken und Vegetable Korma und es war geschmacklich und von der Portionsgröße perfekt! Gerne wieder!

Eine fantastische Beach Bar mit gutem Essen, leckeren Cocktails, super Service und hervorragendem Ambiente. Einfach nur zu empfehlen.

Als wir nach langer Suche in Trincomalee und Umgebung keine Unterkunft finden konnten, haben wir mitten im Unglück den perfekten Spot gefunden. The beach lovers ist der beste Ort um ein paar Tage am Strand abzuschalten. Die Cabanas liegen fast direkt am Strand und mit chilliger Musik am Tag hat man eine chillige Atmosphäre. Die Jungs die dort arbeiten freuen sich auch immer sehr über Musikwünsche, also lasst sie sie wissen. Abgesehen von den Toiletten, die mit der Spülung manchmal etwas zu kämpfen haben, ist der Ort sehr sauber, wenn mann keine europäischen Standards erwartet. Nehmt jedoch kein Essen mit ins Cabana. Dies ist nicht zu allen Seiten zu, so dass Mäuse sich sehr freuen die letzten Kekse vom Flug zu essen und dabei durch die Klamotten zu wühlen. Ohne Essen auf dem Zimmer ist das jedoch gar kein Problem. Das Essen vor Ort ist wahnsinnig gut. Falls ihr noch nicht in Sri Lanka wart, dann probiert unbedingt das Kottu.
Als wir dann doch Lust hatten etwas die Stand zu erkunden konnten wir dort für 2000 Rs. einen Roller mieten und so lang fahren wie wir wollten.
Ganz nach dem Motto "come as a guest leave as a friend" wurden wir dort mit sehr viel Vertrauen und Gastfreundschaft behandelt, abends zum trinken eingeladen und konnten in einer tollen Atmosphäre unsere Tage dort verbringen. Wir durften sogar einer Jungkatze einen Namen geben. Falls ihr also dort einen kleinen Tiger sehr, dann grüßt Nikki von uns.

Muchisima comida y toda súper súper deliciosa! Las gambas y los calamares están espectaculares! La familia del restaurante son muy simpáticos, siempre sonríen y transmiten felicidad! Muchas gracias por todo!

Sehr lecker. Preis etwas höher aber in Ordnung. Wir durften draußen sitzen, damit wir die Parade sehen können.

Sehr guter Avocado Smoothie und schöne Einrichtung. Leider wurde sowohl am Nachmittag als auch zum Abendessen sehr laute und penetrante Techno Musik gespielt, die leider nicht zur gewünschten Strandstimmung passt. ;)

Das beste Strand Restaurant in Nilaveli. Die Preise sind aufgrund der Qualität aufjedenfall gerechtfertigt und der Service ist sehr gut. Das Restaurant hat einen total entspannten Vibe, sodass wir während unseres Aufenthaltes ganze drei mal vorbeischauten. Besonders empfehlen wir jegliche Art von grilled seafood.

Essen war echt lecker 😋, der Service war auch nett - wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!!!!

Sehr köstliches Essen zu kleinen Preisen, sehr nettes Personal. Man kann sich kostenlos Sonnenliegen leihen und so gemütlich am Strand verweilen - es gibt auch eine Dusche und saubere eine Toilette (für Sri Lanka nicht selbstverständlich). Der Besitzer ist um das Wohl seiner Gäste sehr bemüht.
Dieses Restaurant kann ich nur wärmstens empfehlen.

Das BESTE Seafood Restaurant in Beruwela/Bentota
Meine Frau und ich waren bereits in unserem ersten Sri Lanka Urlaub vor 4 Jahren hier und konnten uns nun in dem aktuellen Urlaub im benachbarten Bentota an das tolle Seafood im ShaSha erinnern.
Man sitzt zwar sehr einfach, aber wunderschön direkt am Strand mit den Füßen im Sand. Bei Bedarf können die Tische und Stühle auch recht nah am Wasser platziert werden.
Das Wichtigste ist natürlich das Essen; und das ist wunderbar und wirklich ziemlich günstig. So z.B. Die wirklich reichhaltige Seafood Platte (1 kleiner Hummer, 1 große Krabbe, Tintenfisch, Red Snapper, mehrere King Prawns, Scampi plus Reis und Salat) kostet 5000 Rupien, also ca 25€.
Auch vom Geschmack fabelhaft. Die Kellner sind sehr nett und können auch Sonderwünsche möglich machen. Alles in allem unser absoluter Lieblingsladen, wir waren bei 12 Nächten 8 mal da.

Sehr gutes Essen, sehr freundliche Bedienung, gutes Preis Leistungsverhältnis.
