We were in San Juan again with Royal Caribbean. We had been to the cathedral before, and I really wanted to see it again. We walked, or I walked and my wife powered up the hill on her power wheelchair. It is a hike, but very neat if you can make it. It is about a mile and a half from the cruise port, all uphill. Not so bad but not easy either. Some tours will drop you at the top of the hill at the old fort, and you can walk back through old San Juan downhill. I was disappointed that I could not find a ramp to get my wife in, but I was glad to pop in and see this wonderful place again. If you are an early bird like we are, you won’t find much open, like restaurants, until later.
The second oldest Catholic Church in this Hemisphere. They did an amazing restoration and now you can not only worship but enjoy really historic things. Great job to all those involved in this beautiful place.

Este lugar es un templo de práctica católica dónde te detienes a honrar a Dios en sagrado silencio. A escuchar la lectura del día, recibir la eucaristía o reconciliación contigo mismo. Un Oasis.

San Juan Bautista Cathedra churh, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Parking have to be reserved with anticipation. Recommend to take a taxi cab or Uber. You can walk too, but be ready for walk! All the surroundings are very lively! You can find restaurants, music, entertainment, etc.
Planned the entire day around a trip to this beautiful church. Have waited years for it to be open. It is closed and they don’t know why.
There was more charm to the original parts of the church in comparison to the recently renovated parts ! Still a beautiful church
I was so saddened to see the church bells on the ground out back on the side of the church. Why are they not installed, functioning and being rang each Sunday? Every possible effort should be made to restore these beautiful bells to their original location and function. Ring the bells!
So beautiful and loved being able to see the restored portions and the not yet restored areas. Gorgeous statues and art. A lot of history to learn about in this building. It was free for me to get in on a Friday at 11am

Ok, im Reiseführer wird oft ein Besuch empfohlen, wegen der "Trompe de l'oeil" Malerei an der Decke der Kathedrale - wenn man Kirchen mag oder so etwas noch nicht gesehen hat, dann einfach mal rein - es kostet auch nichts! Mich persönlich spricht die Malerei dort nicht besonders an, weil ich schon sehr viele Kathedralen besucht habe und mir persönlich, diese Malerei etwas "schwach" erscheint, ist aber nur mein Empfinden! Was mir übel aufgestoßen ist, war der mangelnde Respekt sehr, sehr vieler Besucher! Ob man jetzt gläubig ist oder nicht, es dürfte nicht allzuviel Mühe kosten sich seiner Kopfbedeckung zu entledigen wenn man einen sakralen Ort betritt - einfach aus Respekt den Einheimischen gegenüber! Von lautem Gequatsche und Telefongespräche in vollem Safari-Kampf-Outfit mal ganz zu schweigen - bitte, etwas mehr Feingefühl und wir leben alle besser!

Schöne Kirche
Die Kirche ist schön, aber im Vergleich mit vielen anderen nichts besonderes. Es gibt einen tollen Altar und der Rest ist Durchschnitt. Aber man kann sie auf dem Rundgang durch Old San Juan auf jedenfall ansehen.
