A magnificent temple.
If you are in Belgrade I would definitely advise to visit.
The place has also a crypt beneath that at the moment is closedto public.

Destined to be a major religious landmark in the western world.
Didnt think that the current generation of craftsmen could recreate the splendor of the past. Obviously they succeeded and on a grander scale.

This church is dedicated to Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church and an important figure in Serbian medieval history. The interior is full of mosaics are very decorative. The building itself is grand with a huge dome. Undoubtedly a historical and architectural landmark in Belgrade.

South of Belgrade’s city centre, the white marble Temple of Saint Sava (Serbian: Храм Светог Саве) rises, glittering in the sun, and is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Built in the Neo-Byzantine style, the church is dedicated to Saint Sava, founder of the Orthodox Church in Serbia, the first Archbishop of Serbia and the country’s patron saint. The church was built on the site where the Albanian Grand Vizier Sinan Pasha had the excavated remains of Saint Sava desecrated and burned in 1595. In the late 19th century, the decision was made to build a church in honour of Saint Sava on this site, but construction did not begin until 1935 due to the Balkan Wars and WWI. In 1941, WWII threw a spanner in the works, and it was not until 1958 that another attempt was made to complete the church. After 88 rejected requests, it was not until 1985 that construction could resume. Architect Branko Pešić started working on the original design by his colleague Aleksandar Deroko. The most remarkable achievement during construction was lifting the 4,000-ton central dome into place, a job that took no less than 40 days! In 2001, the 49 bells were hung in the towers, the largest of which (the "Bell of St. Sava") weighs 6,128 kg and the 45-bell carillon weighs a total of 19,000 kg. In 2004, the exterior work was completed and the finishing of the interior could begin. Between 2016 and 2020, 300 master artists worked on the gold mosaics that cover 12,000 m2 of the interior. As of June 2024, when I visited the church, work was still being done on the paving around the church, but the church itself is finished and can be admired. Even the most die-hard atheist cannot help but be impressed by this imposing church with its lavish interior. The Temple of St. Sava should definitely be on your must-see list in Belgrade!

No tickets required here and I have been to many cathedrals and churches. There were very few that made an impact which includes Sagrada Familia in Spain and then there was this. Amazing mosaic work and it was breath taking! The scale and artwork. Must visit for tourists in Belgrade. Just remember the taxi drivers are quite corrupt here so check the meter before hand always opt for Pink taxi.

I had the chance to visit this cathedral twice. The architecture is really beautiful and can be found easily. My suggestion is to visit the Nikola Tesla Museum first and then walk here. The place is really beautiful

I happened to be there when prayers were in progress. Its nice to hear.
Inside is huge with some beautiful art. Place felt cooler in the 35C heat outside.

The biggest Orthodox Church in the Balkans at this time.

It doesn't look very impressive when viewed from the front of the church so I recommend giving the side view a try. The pictures surely look more impressive that way.

Inside, the initial feeling is of going into a mall because of the shops flanking the entrance

Other than that the church is very impressive, a huge amount of gold was put into it and almost everything is mosaic which shows how much effort was put into it.
