Leuk om doorheen te lopen. We moesten een tijdvak reserveren maar er was gelukkig plek genoeg.
Het air and space museum bij de luchthaven Dulles (10 min met uber) vond ik veel mooier en bijzonderder.
This is a very popular, free to the public, Smithsonian museum. Timed tickets are required for entry but easy to acquire online. You can easily spend the whole day here exploring all the exhibits. Half of the museum is closed for renovations right now. What is accessible is interesting, well maintained, and well displayed. Navigating the museum is fairly simple and easy. There's a cafe on-site with food options. There's also a gift shop with many fun items. Don't forget to buy and try some freezed dried ice cream; I remembered this as a child. There's also a planetarium on-site offering movies for a fee. We watched "Worlds Beyond Earth". I thought it was educational and worth the experience. There's 2 levels of exhibits and a lower small one operating the Mars Cafe, gift shop, and restrooms. This museum is educational and fun for the whole family to enjoy.
It was our first time and definitely going back. We didn't have time to see the whloe musuem! The kids loved it especially the bubbles and robotic rover. The littlest in our group enjoyed the preschool area train set.
The exhibit was very interesting and cool. The best area was probably the one with all the cars and motorcycles. I enjoyed all of it. Although the gift shop was a little overpriced, the museum was still great.
My kids love this place. There seems to be less exhibits as in the past but its still worth the visit. Kids get to touch things and build and explore. Kids are genuinely happy here. Would recommend for locals and tourists alike. Be prepared to walk. Place is not huge but kids love to walk everywhere. I do recommend the area where kids can get hands on with tubes and legos ect.
The entrance is free but it requires a reservation for a timed pass. It does not allow for an early entry. On a hot summer day, it was no fun standing in a line outside the museum for almost 20 minutes until been letting in.

Some of the exhibitions were cool. We enjoyed the early planes and inventions, flying cars, Nation of speed. Unfortunately the iMax theater was not open. And large spaces were closed due to renovations. The displaying planes were much less than I expected. We visited on Saturday which was a packed day for the museum. There were not enough sitting area. Overall it’s a nice place to visit. But I would wait for a couple more years before visiting again to have a more interesting and enhanced experience. On its website, it says the full building is expected to be open in 2026.

Fun, compact, entertaining museum for families. It's not a huge museum, so is definitely not a multi-hour affair. But it's an interesting idea and well designed for the space. It became very busy during our stay.
Very amazing! Lots of illusions that trick your mind! Can be confusing and headache inducing, but your mind will be blown away! I recommend checking out as soon as possible!
Certainly, one of the greatest museums in the entire world. I haven't been here in 40 years and I am amazed at how much this museum has changed while keeping some of the same mammal picture-window exhibits that I remember from the 1960s.

So why only three stars? We arrived here on a Monday morning shortly before opening and had tickets for 10 a.m. entry. By the time we arrived at 9:45 a.m., there was an immense line of people lining the street and wrapping themselves around the corner. Once the museum opened, that line moved very slowly. Fortunately, once inside, if you had a scannable ticket on your phone you could get in immediately.

I am amazed that there isn't better management of the lines getting inside. Even though there are signs posted all over the grounds outside mandating attendance is by appointment only, it seems like they still allow walk-ins to visit and that is apparently why the lines are tremendous at opening. If we did not buy our tickets in advance, we would have been stuck in another incredibly long line inside the building just to purchase tickets for that day. So, in all, a very stressful process of just getting inside the museum. I think the trick is to come a little later in the day.

There is just so much to see here. We paid for the "everything" pass so we got to go into the butterfly exhibit which was really cool. We also saw the Hayden Planetarium show, but sadly, it wasn't as impressive seeing it as an adult as it was a child. That huge projection machine that used to sit in the middle of the floor is now gone and replaced by hidden projectors. The show seems more like a movie than the celestial event of my childhood years. I also miss the old planetarium that was torn down on the museum property in favor of integrating it more into the museum.

Be aware this museum gets very crowded. It's also a haven for children, and as such, there were always the constant sounds of screaming that echoed through every exhibit and after a while became very cumbersome to the ears. As usual, parents not supervising their children as they ran across the hallways, leaned all over the protective railing, and put their fingers all over the exhibits. If this kind of behavior drives you crazy I would avoid the museum altogether or visit in the fall/winter when school is in session.
It is a must visit for everyone. There is so much to see, I was unable to cover it in a day. There is something for everyone to explore. The fossil section is amazing. Most of the fossils are copies though but it's incredible to witness the ancient giant in their true size. The jewel section is must see. Everyone was really looking forward to see the Hope Diamond. The human evolution section was brilliant. Loved it!!
Really fantastic museum. There is so much to learn and see here! I recommend visiting at least once in your life. The way the portray the exhibits made me realize how precious this one life we get is, and how valuable this planet is to all other life. We need to take better care of our Earth before it’s too late :)
I walked in, and it looked so much better than before. It is amazing how everything is connected to the train station and streets. Planetarium was a great experience with my son. We spent hrs talking about sharks and dinosaurs 🦕 . I definitely will go again soon.
