Went in early May, it's a village (with people really living there) made the traditional way: lava rocks and clay, with hay rooftop. Interesting to see how they built back in olden times and how villages were arranged. There are some sign in English explaining. Not sure if I would recommend to detour because of it. However, we had an EXCELLENT meal at one of the restaurants, best bulgogi we had ever. I would recommend to detour for that one.

Was ok but felt like we were intruding on local life a bit. Would skip if I was short on time.

Seongeup Folk Village, or 성읍민속마을, nestled on Jeju Island, is a living testament to Korea's cultural heritage. The village seamlessly merges history with contemporary life, preserving traditional thatched-roof homes, called hanoks, and showcasing the island's distinctive lifestyle. Strolling through the narrow lanes feels like a journey back in time, with locals engaging in traditional crafts. The village's historical landmarks, like the fortress walls and ancient shrines, add a layer of historical richness. Despite its tourist popularity, the authenticity of Seongeup Folk Village endures, offering a genuine glimpse into Jeju's past. Visitors can savor cultural performances and culinary delights, making it a comprehensive and enriching cultural experience.

Part of tour group itinerary whereby there are centuries-old thatched roof houses which offer a glimpse into the island's traditional way of life.

Lovely little traditional village. We visited in the winter so there wasn’t much going on, it looked like there would be more shops open in the warmer months.
It looks like it’s also set up for tour groups on buses.
There are a few cafes and restaurants. We can highly recommend the pork noodle shop, especially if you need a break from the spicy food.
There are some explanations dotted around, I think we would have gotten more out of it if we had a guide.
There are a couple of hawkers trying to get you into their shop near the big gate!
All in all it was a lovely, quiet few hours. And it’s free!
