معبد پورتونو

This is a surprisingly well preserved temple dedicated to Portuno, the god of keys, doors, ports and importantly livestock, which was suitable given that the temple was located upon the grounds of Forum Boarium, a cattle market in ancient times.

The temple was originally constructed in the 3rd and 4th centuries B.C. but rebuilt around 120-80 BC. It has a rectangular base and is lined with Ionic columns. Seems it was converted into a Christian church during the medieval period and until the early 20th-century century when reverted to its original classical appearance that you see today.

Very lovely temple, it’s been restored and it’s in very nice condition. It’s well preserved and maintained, there’s lots to do and see in and around this area. I really enjoyed my time here and I would definitely recommend visiting the temple and the surrounding sites.
