GREAT DAY OUT. A sunny day on a train chugging through beautiful countryside. Cant be bettered. Drinks and kit kats from the buffet .the sound from the black 5 engine added to the magic and friendly staff . We will be returning again in the not too distant future.
Wow. This was a lovely way to celebrate my wife's birthday, and I couldn't recommend it more. Even though the day was a little grey, the whole experience was magical, the station, the steam, and obviously the train.
We were taking the dining experience to Pickering from Grosmont and back. It is a relatively short distance but certainly long enough to consume three courses.
As there were four of us, we opted for a coupe, but the open dining carriages were just as stunning.
Our party opted for the soups or goat cheese tarts starters, followed by roast pork and all the trimmings or seafood chowder. Dessert was a trio of puds or cheeseboard. All were fabulously presented and tasty.
The staff also need a special mention as it can not be easy to serve a full meal on a moving steam train. However, they did it expertly and were extremely friendly at all times.

Tickets booked online and collected on the day. All worked as it should.
Car park was £5 for the day 2 mins walk from the platform.
Both journeys were very busy as it was Whitby goth weekend but nobody needed to stand.
The guards are super helpful and know their jobs inside out.

Had a day trip to Pickering back in April 2023 while staying in Whitby. Well worth the money to take in the stupendous scenery and ride behind a steam or diesel engine.
It was a special treat for my birthday. Cannot fault the food . Had a lovely leisurely train ride. The waiting staff are all superstars. Loved it . Thank you
Brilliant. Nostalgic. And a great day out. We paid £49.50 each for an annual pass, which we can use as often as we wish in a year. We will be back. Recommended. Only comment... I know it's a steam engine but windows on carriages could do with a clean to improve view
