Jonk Volendammer Haringhandel is a nice, small place known for its fresh herring and other fish specialties. I tried the herring during a break, and while the service was great, I found that the taste of herring just doesn't appeal to me. However, I believe that's how it's supposed to be prepared, so it's more about personal preference.

The stall has a long history, established in 1987, and has moved to a more modern location at Spui 7a to meet the latest standards. They pride themselves on using the freshest ingredients, and the herring is cut daily to ensure the best quality. Besides herring, they offer a variety of other fish, including shrimps, mackerel, salmon, and fried codfish, which might be worth trying if herring isn't your thing.

Recently, they introduced a new box packing, which helps to keep the herring intact for those who want to take it home. This attention to detail in their service is commendable. The stall's central location near popular tourist spots like Dam Square and the Flower Market makes it a convenient stop for a quick, authentic Dutch snack.

Overall, while the herring wasn't to my taste, the service and quality of food at Jonk Volendammer Haringhandel are excellent, making it a recommended spot for those who enjoy traditional Dutch fish dishes.

For some reason this is the only central herring stand open during the brief stay I had- and thank goodness he was! It was excellent, 3.5E in a little plate, fantastic snack. Nice quiet(er) street too

It was my first Herring Sandwich. So good, fresh and tasty! If you are in Amsterdam, you deserve to stop there to try it! I had the traditional Broodje Haring, for € 4,50.

We had the herring sandwich and kibbeling (deep fried cod nuggets). Sandwich was great, but kibbeling was actually very disappointing (extremely salty and not crispy at all after reheating in air fryer in front of us).
