I love how it’s not maintained. It gives nature time to thrive and so I saw creatures here that I didn’t see anywhere else. I will say you should not do this alone. Whether you’re a guy or girl. If you feel that someone is following you don’t be shy about telling them to stop and taking their picture. Also it’s very tough hike, I didn’t make the top for several reasons

The stairs are not maintained so plenty of parts are damaged. This trekking is challenging but the biggest challenge is at the top. You have to consider walking stairs back as at the top there is no chance to take a grab.

Тихое спокойное место для прогулок и как я понял барбекю. Можно искупаться в реке, погулять, но к сожалению мои товарищи не смогли подняться очень высоко. Насколько большая лестница наверх узнать не смогли.

After the recreational area you follow the river to the right side until you reach the steps. It is what it is, a lot of steps. And more. It is not the most exciting hike, at times boring, but the view at the and is very rewarding and you get a good workout.

Despite the fact the trail is described as closed, the way to the top is clear and we hadn't have big difficulties (except 2 or 3 fallen trees) to reach the top.
Otherwise, be careful, there is many leech and it's better to wear long socks.

You can still climb the steps! It says closed, however nothing stops you walking up. There are a few fallen trees which you need to clamber over, however this just adds to the excitement of the climb!

Park in the car park and walk all the way through the river park (past all the picnic spots) to reach the base of the steps.

I took some garden shears with me to clear back some of the vegetation, however the steps are perfectly passable.

It’s a tough climb, 4,200 odd steps, however great fun and lots of great views and wildlife. Take lots of water (at least 2 litres). Coming down is much faster than going up!

Amazing that they have been able to build a staircase all the way from the foot till summit. Absolute must do.

Stairs will be slippery due to foilage after rain but other than that pretty safe.

Tip for the lazy, go with grab up gunung raya, enjoy the view and then go down the stairs starting from langkawi viewing point. Tlthen take a bath in the river at the foot of the mountain :)

Mind the bloodsucking leeches though! It may depend on the time of year (we got 5 leeches in May). They are harmless, but once latched it can be bit hard to flick them off once latched while the bleeding continues for some time too due to the hirudin they inject ^_^ Proper closed shoes are recommended.
