A wonderful place to visit and explore within the station. So many shops small and large. We went into Isetan the large store attached to the station and on the advice of a tour guide found the lovely open deck which I think was on the 11th floor. It is a big open space with views of the city.
A day later we took the bullet train from here to Tokyo. The people who worked in the ticket office spoke good english so we bought the tickets there. In order to have the correct reserved seat with our cases (mustnt exceed 250cm in total dimension) we had to wait 2 hours for the next available train. The time went quickly as we looked around the shops and sat in the lobby of the hotel within the station. Plenty of places to buy snacks, drinks and meals to take on the train. Vending machines outside the station. Also small shops on the actual platform to buy food but not able to buy hot drinks on the platform so get those before you go up to the platform. Kyoto station is the best station in the world I have ever been to. So clean and efficient and all well sign posted in english. If you not sure where to go just ask someone. Everyone very helpful.

We came to Kyoto for 7 days and transmitted here a number of times...it is very big and busy ...there are lots of food options and even outside the station there are many malls...this is a very well designed station and it is very convenient...look forward to coming back to here again !

A grand station with Shinkansen, and local trains right next to JR Isetan mall. It is a place offering everything to everyone. The ground floor of the station is bustling with crowds. Within the station, there are several restaurants, specialty stores. Next to the station is the multi-story shopping mall JR Isetan with more stores, restaurants. There are multi-stage stairs leading up to a terrace. The stairs itself can display light patterns in the evening. Right outside station are bus stop, taxi stand.

Another stop that you should absolutely add to your Kyoto itinerary. Come at night if you can and see the big steps. There are a ton of great restaurants but it can get busy so make a reservation if possible. Lastly, find your way up to the skywalk above the station for a great view of the tower and a cool photo op with the lighting!

Friend of ours told us you should visit the different floors in Kyoto Station 🚉- it is beyond our expectations because we have seen a lot from here, huge, very spacious, a big department store, LEGO models of Kyoto station, the restaurant floor offer a lot of choices, nice view of Kyoto tower etc

We came here to experience the Shinkansen ride to Tokyo and discovered the craziness of this station. It is vast and with limited signage for foreigners. The huge amount of travelers are a given but the complex ticketing process takes ones blood pressure higher like a rollercoaster ride. No worries though, always be prepared to ask the staff and they are very helpful. But, you need time to get things right if you are a first timer to Japan and any of the major rail stations like Kyoto.

Kyoto Station stands as a bustling transportation hub and architectural marvel, embodying the vibrancy of the city. Its modern design seamlessly blends with traditional elements, reflecting Kyoto's rich cultural heritage. As a gateway to the city, the station offers an array of amenities, from shopping and dining to transportation services. Navigating its expansive layout may seem daunting at first, but its efficiency ensures smooth transitions between trains, buses, and taxis. I arrived here via the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station, experiencing firsthand the grandeur of this bustling terminus. Despite its bustling atmosphere, numerous taxis line up for quick transfers, providing convenience for travelers. Additionally, the station offers easy access to metro lines, offering alternative transportation options for exploring the city's wonders. Kyoto Station serves not only as a transport hub but also as a dynamic gateway to the timeless beauty of Kyoto.
