My wife and I walked this path on Monday, October 7th, 2024 after I read about it before our arrival in Bar Harbor on vacation. It's a very nice walk, but the lower 50% of it was closed (blocked off) because the footpath was heavily damaged during a winter storm in 2023 and was not yet repaired. I got the sense that it may never be repaired because the path runs along privately owned property (with million dollar views) and Bar Harbor has become a dreaded "cruise ship" destination, and I'm sure the landowners are happy that droves of passengers won't be able to walk along the southern half of it and peek into their private homes. Total length of the footpath is about 0.8 miles, but only the norther 0.4 miles of it remains open. Google Maps says it closes during the winter months, but there are not any gates that you have to enter to walk along it. Along, there are several placards labeled "Museum of the Street" which call out certain historical landmarks and events that have occurred in Bar Harbor itself.
