In May and June this year, 2024, I enjoyed an extensive 24 day safari in Tanzania with Miriam and Moses of Moments Beyond Borders. We visited Moremi, Ruaha, Udzungwa, Nyerere, Serengeti and Rubondo Island National Parks. It was an excellent experience in every way. Miriam made sure I achieved everything on my wishlist plus a couple of other very interesting excursions. I hiked, viewed game, cruised the the Rufiji River, took a balloon ride over Serengeti, tracked Mangabeys in Udzungwa National Park, tracked Chimpanzees on Rubondo Island, visited the Isimila Neolithic site and viewed the astonishing natural pillars in a canyon nearby, added many new birds to my list and had a humbling learning experience on a two hour trek with a member of a pre-Bantu, hunter/ gathering tribal group. Miriam organized the accommodation ranging from luxury safari tents to well appointed lodges, or more humble lodges chosen for location and even two nights in local hotels. Moses was a skilled driver, who took great care in often difficult conditions making sure we were always safe and comfortable. Every day was a highlight. The stand outs for me were the balloon flight over Serengeti, seeing the Wildebeest migration in Serengeti, seeing a pack of African Wild dogs, tracking the Mangabeys in Udzungwa National Park and the Chimps on Rubondo Island, seeing elephants swimming in Lake Victoria, staying in Ruaha Hilltop Lodge and of course, all the other animals and trees. The only downsides were things beyond Miriam's control, long detours and bad roads after unseasonally heavy rains and very few local dishes, instead, an often disappointing international melange of food.
