استراحتگاه Hacienda Chichen

My husband stayed here over 20 years ago and back then there was a direct access from the property to Chichen-Itza which was why we booked this place for 2 nights for my 1st visit to Chichen-Itza. Husband was dismayed they cut off the direct access and was not happy driving there in the dark for the light show. Other than that, the hotel probably hasn't been updated since my husband stayed - rustic and charming hacienda. The rooms were scattered around the property and it was just basic - no TV and just a motel type room with shared patio. The walls were thin, I could hear our neighbors chatting outside while they lounged on their hammock. We enjoyed the pool and dined here for dinner and lunch since nothing was nearby unless you go into town. Staff got bad reviews but I engaged them with my conversational Spanish and they were quite receptive and nice - maybe shy. Just set your expectations and you won't be disappointed with your stay.

Beautiful hacienda! It’s really lovely when you arrive in this garden with smaller yellow buildings spread out over the terrain. Our room was very nice with a good shower (which is not always the case in Mexico). You have a bigger terrace shared with one neighbor. There is enough seating but it is a little less private (nothing to bad, depending on you neighbor 😉). The restaurant is a little expensive, but in our opinion the food was very good! It is a more upscale hacienda, you see that in the prices. The only thing that confused me, is that you were not allowed to bring any of your own food or drinks. There was water in the room, but you had to pay for it. When tap water isn’t save to drink, and you are not allowed to bring your own, you should offer that for free.

Dubious room quality. Air conditioning not functioning, ceiling fan incredibly noisy and looked like it was going to fall from the ceiling. Bug nets at the windows didn’t close properly, but the windows had been left open prior to our arrival - inevitably we got bitten during the night.

Odd drain smell occasionally by the pool.

Slow or absent service - two hours sat by the pool with no drinks service (first world problems!).
Watch out the water bottles in the room are not complimentary.
Evening meal options we generally good, although we weren’t able to charge our evening meal to our room bill (not a huge problem, but a bit weird given we couldn’t go anywhere to avoid paying).
Very dark restaurant, so everyone ends up reading the menus by the torch on their phone.
Breakfast was poor quality.

It’s a very disappointing hotel - not abysmal, but could be so much better with a bit of extra effort. Missed opportunities everywhere.

Excellently placed for an early entrance to the pyramids, get in ahead of the really big crowds from Cancun and the heat.

Clearly pitched at providing travellers with a single night.
