The Philippine Eagle Center is a bit of a drive from Davao, but it’s definitely worth the trip. Parking is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, but it is free.

While I’m not sure if formal tours are offered, I did notice an employee guiding a small group and providing explanations about the exhibits. The staff were polite and very helpful with any questions we had.

The area open to the public isn't very large; we were able to see everything in about an hour. It’s inspiring to see such a dedicated effort toward the preservation of these majestic eagles. You'll encounter several breeds of eagles along with other native animals. Be sure to visit Viggo, the famous eagle featured on the Filipino 1000 peso bill.

While I appreciate the work being done to protect wildlife and the need for a sanctuary, seeing majestic birds tied up and never being able to fly is just sad 😢. This seems to only be for the benefit of visitors.

However, better to support this cause than face the alternative of the Philippine Eagle going extinct.

This is the reason why we wanted to go to Davao. I’ve always dreamed of seeing a Philippine eagle up close and personal. The eagles are just so majestic. Every story about them paints them to be this gorgeous creatures ruling the sky.

So one rainy afternoon back in 2016, we decided to go to the eagle sanctuary despite the rain. We were worried that there might be no eagles out because they are taking shelter from the rain. But lo and behold, they were all out. It was like they we enjoying the rain, must like little kids playing in the rain. 🥰 Despite the wet look, the eagles were still beautiful. Just like this handsome fellow. You can still appreciate his beauty despite the blurry photo.

The two stars are as follows and hopefully PEC will address it for the sake of the preservation and proliferation of the Phiilippine eagles.

1. We feel the eagles does not have enough space/enclosure for them to fly around.
2. The raptors in the Raptor garden specifically are obviously chained to their perches but the chains are so short. They need to fly around just like us humans needing to walk. Very sad to see
3. The crocodile enclosure is the same, too small.
4. The place needs uplifting
5. There is no tours to explain and stop visitors from being too noisy.
6. The plants needs watering
7. The structures like cabanas needs repairs

PEC has a lot to offer and and a very beautiful place, just like everything it needs attention and care. We know funding will always be the case and we hope the government can step in to save our eagles.
