Very interesting museum. Don’t underestimate the size as it’s huge inside and it will take you about 2 hours to complete. My only complaint is that they close too early.
This is a very fun and extremely manageable museum very close to the Plaka area of Athens. It showcases the occasional exhibit and has a permanent collection of art, costumes, historical documents, along with the random objects of life. It was a pretty quiet place when I was there. While I didn’t eat in the very attractive cafe, it looked like a nice spot for a light sandwich and coffee.
A fabulous personal collection, displayed for public viewing. Must visit to see the evolution of embellishment of life from stone age to the 19th century.
A great museum! Shows the culture of Greece and Athens in various ways - from the classic archeological finds to tradition clothing and religious topics. If you can invest time to just one museum to get to know local history, then I would choose this place. The building itself is also very interesting and beautiful.
I visited during the shoulder season (April). I found this place just as valuable as many of the Athens' more touristy museums. The building looks small from the outside, but it contains quite a big exhibition inside, over a few floors, you'll need at least 2 hours. There's also a nice restaurant with a balcony. Thank you for the free Thursday nights (6pm-midnight), really nice initiative.
PS it's also worth noting that Benaki Foundation has a number of museums and buildings in Athens. This one is probably the best known one - but not the only one you can visit.

Very nice museum that is laid out chronologically. With most recent on upper floor. The cafe was an unexpected find! Nice for drinks & desserts mid-afternoon; offered appertivo (drink & snack combo) after 5 pm
Heated about this private museum in the travel video on my flight to Athens, pretty interesting angel. Unlike other big museum overwhelmed you with tons of different eras of history, they arranged everything from the very beginning, to the early 1900, they even gives you number on each sections, to guide you through the history,You can feel the passion from the owner. The rooftop cafe is a MUST GO beautiful restaurant, to catch a moment. Please remember to keep your ticket, they might check your tickets on the different floor.
Very interesting museum. There have been even some exhibits that I've never encountered in other museums in Athens. Without any objections, it makes sense to be visited.
