This park is an excellent example of wet tropical rainforest. There are two hikes you can easily do without a guide: to Wing Hin waterfall (actually just a cataract) and the San Yang Roi Trail. If you go beyond these places, you have to have a guide. Wing Hin is an easy walk 6km return along a vehicular track. San Yang is a steep 3km circuit mostly using steps and bridges and is much more immersed in the jungle. You can see languars and hornbills as well as many insects on the Wing Hin trail.
We had a nice 7 km Tour in the rainy season. I recommend to Go in the morning, because of the Heat. Moderate hiking, opportunities to swim in waterfalls. Our Guide Mr. To Made the Trip marvelous. Every now and then he stopped, to Show us some animals. We have Seen: makakes and other Monkeys, a Family of Siamangs (Gibbons), countless colourful caterpillars, Frogs, lizards, Monitor lizards, Chamäleons and whatnot....an amazing day, thanks to Mr To
Nice and fresh national park. You can hike alone for 3 kilometers without needing a guide. Watch out for leeches. The water in the toilet might contain dirt sometimes. It's a really nice place to come and enjoy your time.
Expensive to visit. Costs 340 bhat while doing a boat tour crammed with 15 other people. This was in the low season. High season is worse. Nothing much to see in the forest. The cliffs are ok, nothing jaw dropping.
There was a locked gate after the non guided trail ended we could not pass. Aggressive monkeys also. Very much the jungle.
We stayed 3 nights in the cute little town. And did 1 full day trekking tour with our guide Kaewl. He was able to show us all the little details we would've missed without him. The jungle is absolutely magical, and we enjoyed every minute of it. 10 out of 10! Thailand is, and always was, magical. It's the drunk-non-caring tourists that ruin the vibe.
Amazing trail. Saw monkeys along the way. They are friendly and don't bother with you. Did it with no guide and it was necessary. Took a slow wonder took around 3 hours there & back.
