I went in May 2023, and I have to say that it has changed quite a bit. The stairs that were once painted have now been almost completely painted over. So, there might not be as many photo spots as before, but the surrounding atmosphere is still beautiful. You can still enjoy a leisurely walk around the area.

LOVED this area (including the very strenuous, but beautiful, hike up from the Hansung University Station (Exit 4). Supposedly this is an easier incline than starting at Hyehwa station. I can't imagine how difficult that walk would be compared to Hansung. But in any event it was glorious. I only encountered a handful of people on the trail leading up the mountain and likewise in the village. I can't imagine streams of tourists making it up here given the gazillion of stairs they would have to climb (my friend calls them the Korean stairmaster!). However, if you are healthy, without any major mobility issues, this is a wonderful spot to spend an hour or two exploring. Highly recommend.

I have lived here many years and been to Dongdaemun Shopping area tens of times. This was first time at Ihwa mural village. My friend knew the place and we had coffee meeting there. Just follow the wall from Dongdaemun gate uphill.

We went to coffee shop with nice view. Owner has interesting lock museum in the same lot in next building. Just have a coffee or beer and museum is free of charge.

Lovely, peaceful walk up the hill, along the city wall and spring trees in bloom, then coffee and hot chocolate and great rooftop views. One of our favourite afternoons in Seoul.

Beautiful place, absolutely worth a visit! Remember to wear a good pair of shoes and wear comfortably as there are alot of stairs to climb but its really worth it. Its connected to Naksan Park, amazing place as well if you are looking for a good walk away from the city. The view from both Naksan and Ihwa are breathtaking. There are some restaurants and alot of cafes along the way, great spot to burn calories and chillax.

There is a map at the beginning of the village. There are lots of stairs. I went early in the morning so there was no crowd. In my opinion, mural village in Jeonju and Busan are better. So I would skip it if going there.

Was fun to walk around the quiet neighborhood to check-out the murals. It is on a hillside so come prepared to climb stairs and exert some energy. Unfortunately several of the notable murals have been removed. Not as appealing had I known about that prior. The village does border the Naksan park which is also a good place to walk around and view the city.
