This is a memorial hall for the soldiers who died in the war. Wars include Sino-Japanese War, Russo-Japanese War, Japanese-Chinese War or Second Sino-Japanese War and the Great Eastern War (Allied powers call it the Pacific War) that ended in 1945. Entrance fee is free for children, 300JPY for Adults. Despite the space limitations of the place, there are as many as eleven battleship models displayed inside the acrylic cases. The most notable ones are Imperial Japanese Navy’s Yamato the largest battleship ever built on Earth. IJN aircraft carrier Hiryu (pronounced he-liu) that fought in the Pearl harbor, the battle of Midway. Out of four IJN aircraft carriers in the battle of Midway, She was the last one to survive the battle. Led by IJN rear admiral Sir Yamaguchi Tamon, she destroyed the US aircraft carrier Yorktown and sank next day eventually. (Hiryu later sank by IJN themselves also) And, Yukikaze destroyer that survived until the end of the war. Also Yukikaze (postwar unarmed version) was recently featured in the film Godzilla-1.0. Though the scale is 1/100. The battleships are very huge! Explanations are written mostly in Japanese language. I’d recommend reading those explanations using smartphone’s Google translate camera app. Since the English language explanations are so little compared to the Japanese. You are allowed to take photos but not videos there.

こぢんまりしてますが、見学して良かったと思いました。
戦争で若くして亡くなった方たちの事を思うと目頭が熱くなります。

仙台城跡敷地内にあり、中に1/100の戦艦大和の模型や、戦死者の写真、遺品等展示されている。その中で目に止まった遺書があった。身籠った妻へ宛てた遺書で、もし男の子が産まれたら教育をしっかり頼む、縁があったら再婚しろ等達筆な文字で綴られていた。涙が出た。
みんな、色んな想いを抱いて戦地へ赴く。大切な者を残して。
どれだけ切なく悲しく恐ろしかっただろう。
様々な気持ちになった。
女性は遺書に涙し、男性は戦艦大和の最後に涙するのだろうか。
