Una porta verso la pace e la tranquillità al centro di Firenze a 2 passi dal Duomo.
Questa chiesa dall'altare spoglio e dagli affreschi laterali particolarmente belli ispira veramente il raccoglimento. Vi può capitare di entrarvi e dimenticare tutto il mondo all'esterno

Sono passato da questa piccola chiesetta durante una mezza giornata di turismo a Firenze. Chiesa molto piccola sicuramente meno prestigiosa di Santa Maria novella e della basilica Maggiore tuttavia anche essa ricca di opere pittoriche antiche e di un bellissimo quadro di Santa Rita. Ideale per un breve momento di raccoglimento.
L' esterno di questa chiesa non rivela il fascino di un interno intimo, la cui bellezza invita alla preghiera più di altre chiese. Un vero rifugio spirituale, le cui porte ho trovato sempre aperte( al contrario di altre chiese del centro storico).
This is one of Florence's oldest churches with a history that dates back to the the 8th century. The building you see today however was originally constructed in the 11th-century while major restorations also took place in the 13th-century giving it both Romanesque and Gothic characteristics that you see today.
The exterior is subtle, bleak, fairly representative of Romanesque style churches. The interior includes a central nave with arched vaults. Side aisles feature ceiling frescos and nice artworks. There are a couple of tombs of note as well.
All can be leisurely viewed in 10 minutes or so, making Santa Maria Maggiore a nice stop if you enjoy visiting old churches during your travels. You can conveniently pop in while doing the rounds along Via de' Cerretani.

Mooie kerk met oude fresco’s. Geen entree, een mooi moment voor bezinning. Wel jammer dat op de vele altaren briefjes liggen wat erg rommelig staat

Freier Eintritt, sehr ungewöhnlich
