Short distance from Stockport train station, Turn left - tall chimney with 'Hat Museum' written on it. Fascinating visit, original factory floor showing manufacture processes. Plus, there is an abundance of style and fashion designs throughout the ages. Nice cafe, arts workshop space. Friendly staff.

Recently reopened and hugely entertaining and informative, the museum has a fantastic collection of hats and the factory floor has original machinery, clear explanations of the felt hat making process and fascinating insights into the lives of the workers. Highly recommended.

Very family friendly, engaging floor of hat displays and a floor of machinery, a nice hour-long experience. Clean, well lit, with activities for kids, and a very attractive visual design.

As a museum it needs a bit of improvement - very hard to get any information on the things you're seeing, and the reference numbers on many of the hats have already fallen off etc so where there were information panels it was hard to match the hats to the entries. The thematic display of hats by material is visually engaging, but as there's limited dating on any of them you miss the opportunity to learn anything about hat fashions from any time period, or how they changed over time. Surprised not to see much mention of the RSPB which originated in Manchester as a campaign to reduce the use of feathers in hats etc - an opportunity for an interesting collaboration?

It would have been good to be able to access a tour or similar additional information - I've been looking on the website periodically for months but there's been nothing, so I ended up just visiting the museum without.

Just spent a very interesting morning with Eliza, she captivated us from the start, she was full of fact and interesting stories about the Hat works and how Stockport was the Epicentre of this - who knew. She was so knowledgable and interesting she went over the time allocated as we kept on asking questions. Really enjoyed the visit and would like to bring more friends now to see it. It had only been open for 2 weeks and well worth the wait

I was very impressed with the refurbished Hat Works. This was my first visit. There is a wide collection of hats on display and an Arc Workshop, which also incorporates a cafe. I will be returning to have a more leisurely look and see the machinery display, too, as I understand this to be incredible.

A brilliant tour led by a lovely lady whose knowledge about the Hat making business was also a personal family history. Very informative. Hat displays are amazing. Well worth a visit.
