There’s a lot of construction going on right now. You pay a federal park entrance fee then an additional fee to enter to the ruins/beach. There are “public beaches” after you pay the federal entrance fee. It’s a lot to do by foot. Recommend a bike or scooter or find someplace else to go to 😊 soon there will be shuttles but not quite yet. There are big faucets that dispense drinking water at each rest stop.
Tulum national park is a beautiful place to visit. A lot of Mayan history, architecture, and ocean views to take in. I went on a guided tour that took 2 hours which in my opinion was plenty of time to see and take pictures. There are no restrooms or food stands inside the park so make sure you do this before you enter. I highly recommend going if you are thinking about it.
Tip for entry: just go to entrance if you want to see the site with no guide/boating etc.
It is so nice that once you enter the site there are no vendors like Chichen Itza. It allows you to be present and take everything in.

Awesome to visit and see the ruins, but could be better organized. There are a lot of people trying to sell you on stuff that aren’t the official ticket booth, and the layout is a bit confusing. The ruins themselves are pretty cool and well preserved. We found a guide on an app and used that rather than paying for a private guide. Was very packed on a Monday morning around 10 AM.
Cant describe how amazing this place is. Just the Ruins themselves are overwhelming. The view to the ocean is beautiful. If you can, get a guide to tell you the history of this place. Highly recommended.
Highly recommend this ancient Mayan ruins as it’s a phenomenal snapshot in history. Site was very visitor friendly, although not everywhere was accessible as there were renovations going on at the time of the visit. That being said the view of the ocean and historical significance of this site made it all the worthwhile. A must see and checking this, exciting and visually impressive site out is essential.
A couple things to know here.
Do not get caught up buying more expensive and not legit "ticket" sellers out of the official gates. Just go in and park your car or bike and purchase tickets from the gates.
There is a large area of vendors and such before you go into the park. Some retail and some people selling photos to take with birds and monkeys. And if you don't have pesos you'll have to get them here to pay entrance to ruins.
You need to buy a pass for the park, it's a wrist band and you can use a card for this purchase. This is a small stand to the right of the entrance to park.
You cannot bring plastic bottles of water or food. So get rid of them before you start the walk to the ruins.
You then will need a ticket to get into the ruins part of the park. This ticket needs to be bought in pesos. They will not take usd and do not take a card. You buy this ticket at a building on the right and usually has some sort of line. Again you need pesos and they do not offer change. They also offer private tour guides that you can hire there and price depends on group size and those tours are about 1 hour.
Entrance to the park is around 60 pesos (again you can use card here) Entrance to the ruins is around 100 pesos. So if you're doing it right and follow directions you can see the cost here is much lower than those stands at the entrance or the tours that are led.
You are then able to explore the ruins on your own pace and there are lots of signs and great reads about the ruins. There is also very little shade and only a few places to sit so plan accordingly.
You can no longer get to the beach from the steps from the back of the ruins. There is a other entrance for that down a longer road and does have an additional cost ( I don't know what that cost is as we didn't go)
