Unfortunately, I was called away before I could give the museum the time it deserves (confound all mobile phones!), but I will definitely be returning.

Very cool experience. They had very fair pricing (that was discounted or even free for children and locals) and extensive exhibits. Definitely recommend to anyone from anywhere, regardless of your interest in football. Took us around 2 hours (without any children) to look through everything and we read a lot and took plenty of photos.
Love wandering around this place for a few hours, lots to see and its a great enviroment for kids to learn.. even adults!

What a hugely impressive place Manchester Art Gallery is! It is transforming itself and our expectations of public art through a process of critical examination and renewal that re-presents its holdings in a way that is relevant for today. The public are made part of this journey and transformation. As you walk around, you find yourself thinking differently and anew about the art on display. There is nothing not to like about this process.
The gallery exhibition showing the influence of the painter Adolphe Valette on the better known LS Lowry was a particular delight and revelation for me. Highly recommended.
A final comment: the art works on display at the Manchester Art Gallery are beautifully lit. Viewing them is a calming and relaxing - as well as rewarding - experience. The 'Trading Station - how hot drinks shape our lives' exhibition was a marvelous example of this. Entering this gallery room took my breathe away.

Amazing library and research institute with an unique collection of manuscripts and artefact, like St John's fragment, containing parts of seven lines from the Gospel of John. Just the building itself it's outstanding. A Victorian Gothic architecture that once you step into it as the ability to carry anyone straight to the magical Hogwarts. A real treat.
Great place, lovely cafe, plenty of parking. The staff are very approachable and don't mind sharing their knowledge.

Beautiful and breathtaking gothic architecture, very well preserved, the galleries are beautiful and you can sit and enjoy the historical reading room, with plugs to charge you phone or computer.

There's nothing greater than being able to take your kids, and yourself, to Manchester Museum for free. There are some fantastic displays, great historical education, the environment is clean and welcoming and there's enough space for it not to feel overcrowded.
There are dinosaurs, taxidermy, fossils, videos, displays and loads more cool things to keep everyone engaged.
The cafe is relaxed, reasonably priced with top quality food and drink and extremely friendly staff.

Seriously, this was a must. It’s pitted towards the English football fan on many ways, but certainly not exclusively.

Special shout out to the guy on “reception” who, on hearing I was a Smiths Fan, highlighted some places I had never been to in Manchester that played tribute or were orchestral in their rise. He even came over as we were leaving with more facts, but not in an intrusive way whatsoever.

It was great! There's a little something for everyone here. It was free entry, is in the center of town and really easy to find if you're not a manny regualr and its great art. There's a Pre-Raphaelite selection, climate change art, modernist and sculpture as well as tall paintings and a woman's section.. its just a really good visit honestly. I would definitely go again.
Visit the Manchester Art Gallery on a Saturday afternoon. The overall experience was amazing. Would highly recommend visiting the place if you are in Manchester. No entry ticket is required. The paintings were truly amazing. It is quite a big gallery with a few floors and different rooms with different themes.

They had little football themed games and galleries when I went. Every visit is different so it's worth taking multiple trips there if you're ever in the area.

If you love football, then this is the place for you! It's not as big as it looks, but is chock full of information & memorabilia. It was really busy with it being the Easter holidays, but your ticket is an annual pass so you can go back as many times as you want.

Easily accessible by Metrolink (streetcar), the museum is a 5-minute walk from the station. I visited on a day when admission was free. It traces the history of conflicts, including that of Northern Ireland.

The exhibition on life during The Troubles was fascinating and thoughtfully curated. It’s evident that a lot of care and respect went into the exhibition which is commendable given how sensitive the topic is. Lots of educational exhibits and perspectives from all sides. It was a bit crowded for a weekday morning though but it’s great that folks are interested. The museum staff were lovely and helpful.
Beautiful! So much to see and experience in this place. Be sure to check out each and every section of this majestic art gallery and you’ll be amazed with everything you’ll see.

Very good atmosphere here. Lots to read, lots of information and so many artifacts from so many different wars.
One thing I was surprised to see was a room dedicated to the wars in Ireland. That's something that was never taught about when I was in school, so I learned a lot about the brutality of the war over there.
All together a great visit and highly recommended. Thank you for the displays.

Grote teleurstelling. Hetgeen je wilt zien met een zoon van 9j, is afgesloten en dat was niet aangegeven. Dus geen voertuigen enz. Waar ik een dagje plande was op een half uurtje gedaan.

Brilliant place to visit and explore. Place is split over 2 buildings and 3 floors and adjoined by bridges. Word of warning, if taking kids, snack before exploring! The main picnic area is on the ground floor, no snacks or drinks In the main exhibit areas.
Really educational and both kids (7 and 4) found something interesting to see.

Fantastic little museum. Definitely worth a visit as it's free entry. Very educated guides full of knowledge. The replica courtroom upstairs is very good.
Explore Salford Quays post BBC relocating here and visit Daniel Libeskind's War Museum! Cost us £5 to park, free entry but they welcome donations obviously. It's an ok museum tbh maybe 2 hours visit max. Cool mini-films shown throughout the day which the whole place darkens and stops for. Interesting Northern Ireland section and sculpture made from pieces of the World Trade Centre.
An interesting museum with lots to look at. Friendly and knowledgeable volunteers, all ex-police officers, some of which worked at the police station that the museum is based in.

I will say everyone was so educated and truly kind hearted, I was fortunate to had a beautiful dialogue with a Lady that had a degree in history and was able to speak and exchange a couple of historical facts that truly marked the friendship between the UK and the Jewish community and also the gratitude by deeds done in Manchester for the hole of the Manchester city... By the building of hospitals and so forth... The hardships of starting over with nothing and the ones that grew and allow Manchester to be seen has a Beehive. Even exchange some little stories and had a beautiful smile on the end. Unfortunately this museum does not show the magnificent work of what gratitude and success in many fields the Jewish community has done trough the ages. And also should be better explained the rituals and true concept of this religion. I would definitely advise to buy the book and also hopefully this historian great lady be ones guide... To explain the long and respectful friendship that combined this two great people, the ones that allowed Jews to stay and the Jews that made Manchester a home and made it better from even before world wars... Has a European citizen and one that comes from Lisbon and knows a bit of history I am truly grateful for at least to have crossed paths with this lady and the kindness of also a Jewish Lady that worked with underprivileged groups like myself. True kindness and hope one day like I did in the past also be allowed to write by my own hand after choosing a word to answer two questions... History shines by deeds and by deeds we make the hole shine by good morals and understanding the final goal. To give back the chance to live again and to belong somewhere and make this ground more them it was before. Honestly even so it is a beautiful place, for me that has able to visit before the award, i missed the bridges the citation of certain true stories that combined children and adults... What does a parent for ones children, what does one due to fit in, what way and mark exists that shows gratitude and success... One should definitely buy the book ... And take a bit a sit down a read and understand beyond what we see and ear...

This is really a wonderful place to go and see artwork. It's free entry, with optional donations. Disabled access is clearly in mind as there is a ramp to enter and lifts inside the building.

Wonderful neo-gothic library built between 1890 and 1900 by the will of Enriqueta Rylands, in memory of her husband John. It is part of the University of Manchester from 1972 and contains nowadays a collection of about 1,5 million items covering 5 thousand years of human history. There are 30 minutes free guided tours to visit the building. A real gem, in my opinion number one attraction in Manchester.
A really nice experience for adults and children alike…. I enjoyed my time here… I would advise booking ahead for the Egyptian mummies exhibition…. There were lots to see and learn so I would advise minimum 2 hours and even that’s not enough time to go through all this museum has to explain… my favorite area was the dinosaurs… there was a cafe as well for those who want to have something to eat.
Such a good day out. Decided to pay a visit to the IWM during February half term. The museum is situated on Salford Quays and next to MediaCityUK.

Firstly, let's talk about practical stuff. The museum is easy to access by both road and public transport and it has its own NCP carpark onsite next to the museum. The carpark is pretty reasonable for Manchester/Salford with parking starting at £5 for 4 hours. Please be aware. If you park for 1 hour or 4 the price is still £5. Secondly, the payment machine at this carpark is card only but you can pay retrospectively online if you prefer. Alternatively there are plenty of alternatives close by including the MediaCityUK multistorey and the Quayside (former Lowry Outlet) multistorey.
If you are using public transport the metrolink is a good option with stations close by and onsite.

The museum itself tells the history of war beginning just prior to WW1 through to present day. The exhibits work on a timeline that is mapped out in a circuit around the venue. In addition within the centre of the venue are a range of additional exhibits focusing on a specific topic. Every hour an immersive film is played that is incredibly well produced and projected throughout the walls of the main space. These films were really interesting and I really enjoyed the poems. The entire exhibition is located on one floor, and accessibility is really good.

The museum also has a gift shop onsite and a really good cafe. The coffees and cakes were very reasonably priced and super tasty. The coffee was real coffee.

In summary, it's a great place to visit and perfect for children. However, it is better suited to children who are a little older. My youngest is 8 and whilst she liked the museum the vast amounts of reading would be too much for children who are under 7. However, all said this is a moving museum that's a must visit in the North West.

My 7 year old daughter and i just visited the museum on a Thursday in half term, we expected it to be very busy but it wasn't, we entered straight away. My daughter absolutely loves the police force so this has been on our list for quite some time but the opening times made it tricky, its only open on Tuesdays then sometimes Thursdays during school holidays (you can check the Facebook page).
She loved trying on the different uniforms and seeing the police bikes (no other vehicles, we thought there would be a car).
We collected our tickets to the court room as we entered, and what fun she had in there, called to the stand to be a witness as a little pig against the big bad (very funny) wolf!
We then made our way down to the cells where we met a lovely volunteer who talked with her and answered all her questions and then to the charge desk to be shown different equipment the force have used through time to the present day.
The museum is only small but we were there for 1hr 30m and she loved it.

Gorgeous place! Some areas were quite busy but we did go on a weekend during the half term. We would definitely be going back. The gift shop wasn't extortionate either!
Excellent museum with lots of impressive exhibits. Its layed out over three floors and they are easy to navigate. Lift access is available and there is a choice of two cafe's with one serving food. There is also an indoor picnic area with lots of seating. The museum is all free entry but online booking is advised for the golden mummies exhibit. Overall a wonderful experience was had and the museum is a great place to spend 2-3 hours and the children loved it.
A surprisingly young library which opened in 1900, but oh my - what a setting! The most beautiful library I think I have ever seen. Free to visit and with lifts to all floors, fully accessible. I highly recommend visiting here.

I would have given it 5 stars but there wasn't any food on in the cafe as the chef wasn't there. We hadn't had lunch but did have some lovely cake. The new addition to the museum is fantastic. I worked there 39 years ago as a graphic designer in the old part of the building. I would definitely go again as there's so much to see.

We visited for the first time yesterday and had a great experience. Although we were a little time pressed we managed to visit every exhibit.
We thoroughly enjoyed a brief game of subuteo and doing all the little quest style games such as guessing the nicknames of the teams. My son (13) enjoyed the more hands on task such as the penalty shootout and we had a family competition on shot stopper. Those games went down a storm. We will be back hopefully this year

It's definitely a must visit if you're a football fan. It's a huge building with exhibitions on a few floors. You can read a lot about football history, see interesting items, and play different football related games. There is a cafe on the ground floor and a room for events. It's a great venue for team events. I actually visited for a company organised event and everything was perfectly organised. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Not only history of English football or world football, in this museum you will find the development of the balls, shoes, and more. Walk towards to two upper levels, you will start to find games, including many different football board games (that people usually haven't heard of) and some football video games. If you want to learn the details, join the tour guide which is the best part of the museum tour. Unübersichtlich und nicht wirklich interessant. Wirbt mit gratis eintritt aber man wird am Eingang direkt um eine Spende angebettelt. Der obere Stock mit den "Spielen" ist das einzig unterhaltsame.
Had a quick visit here this weekend, was really interesting to hear about the Jewish community in Manchester, and there was so much to see! Good for a morning/afternoon but not really a whole day. They have a cafe that looked really nice and a small shop. The synagogue was beautiful!

Wir kamen mit den Enkelkindern, um die Ausstellung "Operation Ouch" zu besuchen, welche uns viel Spaß und Information bot.
Nicht minder sehenswert sind die ständigen Ausstellungen und besonders die Etage mit der Experimentierfläche.
Das Café bietet kleine Stärkungen an, die uns gut getan und geschmeckt haben.

Das Museum ist wirklich schön und da der Eintritt gratis ist, bietet das Museum ziemlich viel dafür.

Sehr schönes Museum, Altbau mit ergänzenden Neubau. Mit gefällt die Vernetzung der ausgestellten Exponate - sehr sehenswert.
Museum is bijna gesloten, op enkele exposities na. Er is momenteel een grote renovatie. Ik had het na 15 minuten wel gezien. Voor kinderen iets beter, want op de bovenste verdieping waren nog wel interactieve spellen te doen. Ga er nu niet heen. In potentie wel een goed museum.
Architektonisch eindrucksvoll, die Exponate sind das „übliche“. Umsonst, deswegen am Wochenende hoffnungslos überfüllt. Achtung: das Museums Café ist aktuell (Jul‘23) geschlossen.
Ein richtig schönes Gebäude, sowohl von außen als auch von innen. Da es umsonst ist, kann man eigentlich gar nicht meckern, trotzdem hatte ich mir in Bezug auf die Auswahl und Infos etwas mehr erhofft. Es gibt auf jeden Fall tolle Kunstwerke, wenn auch eher vereinzelt. Ein Besuch lohnt sich trotzdem!
Diese Galerie ist immer ein Besuch wert. Tolle Ausstellung. Da der Eintritt frei ist, kann man einfach mal reinschauen. Anschließend kann man noch eine kleine, sogar mit Karte, geben.
Viele Dinge aus verschiedenen Kulturen zu sehen. Dinosaurier Ausstellung ist sehr klein, aber informativ! Besondere Ausstellungsstücke!
Das Museum für Wissenschaft und Industriekunde bietet eine sehr schöne Ausstellung. Der Eintritt ist frei, aber um eine Spende wird gebeten.Zurecht, denn sowas muss erhalten werden. Um das Museum herum gibt es weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten die sich lohnen anzuschauen.
Schade. Ich war eigentlich wegen der Art Gallery nach Manchester gereist und bin sehr enttäuscht. Es ist ein schönes Gebäude, aber es gibt vergleichsweise wenig Gemälde und es gibt auch kaum die Highlights, die ich mir erhoffte. Ja sie ist ein Besuch wert, aber in 1 Stunde reicht um alles zu sehen.

In one way, this is a good thing as it's an excellent gallery, with wonderful works on display. The lack of change also adds to a sense of nostalgia for a visitor such as myself. However, I feel it's lacking in events which help engage new and existing visitors, and the exhibits really begin to feel, - though much loved, a bit stale and time-worn.
My children love coming here, but compared to other galleries and museums, Manchester Art Gallery is certainly lacking in that sense of engagement and creativity in which these places are ideally supposed to encourage a spark in young minds. 🌱
We visited one time when they gave out these little match box activity kits, which were fantastic, but unfortunately as far as we've been aware, there hasn't been anything fun since!
One fun thing to see however, is all the creepy guys who don't seem too interested in the art, until they get to William Etty's 1837 painting of "The Sirens and Ulysses". Soooo many pervs in one room pointing their phones at it, is hilarious to see! 🥲

Ganz tolles und sehr sehenswertes Museum. Hat mir sehr gut gefallen und komme gerne wieder! Museumscafe mit gutem Kuchen und Gebäck!
Moderne Kunst und Installationen mit wechselnde Austellungen diverser Künstler. Mich hat die Arbeit der Keramikkünstlerin Halima Cassell begeistert die noch bis Frühjahr 2020 zu sehen ist. Ich bin immer wieder erstaunt, dass der Eintritt in Museen und Galerien im Königreich meist frei ist

In januari geweest, vele onderdelen, ondergebracht in verschillende loodsen waren helaas gesloten. De delen die wel open waren, waren zeer zeker de moeite waard. Alleen al die paar meter grote eerste computer, was geweldig om te zien.
Heel leuk en interessant museum. Veel geleerd over de internationale bekende natuur- en scheikundigen die kennelijk in Manchester hebben gestudeerd.

Sehr schön renoviert und für ein Museum aller Art umfunktioniert. Es gibt verschiedene Teile der Ausstellungen von Dampfmaschinen über Dampfloks, Wasserpumpen, Flugzeuge und alte Autos und sonstiges Technisches. Sehr schön aufbereitet und liebevoll präsentiert.
Genial! Da ja sämtliche kulturelle Einrichtungen ohne Eintritt zahlen zu müssen, es aber immer um "donation" (freiwillig!) gebeten wird, zugänglich sind, ist dieses Museum ein kleines Muss. Ganz viele Schaukästen von Mensch und Tier, ein Bereich mit lebenden Tieren/ Reptilien und einfach ganz viel Tolles! I love!!!
