What an amazing place of industrial heritage. One can only try to imagine this site bustling with activity, 8000 people on site and the noise and smell and dust and dirt. All this started by Franz Haniel to mine the black gold. We benefited from a well informed tour guide who helped to bring this to life, highly recommended since this gives you access to buildings equipped with sound and video installations.
It’s a fascinating place with 9 floors of history! You’ll pretty much everything about ships, submarines, sailing boats, cargo ships and so on (even pirates). From the building part to the commercial and modern uses they have nowadays. Plus, it offers you an inside to the story of Hamburg as one of the most important ports in Germany and in Europe. It will make you understand even the economics and how trading has changed the world. Book the tickets in advance and if you get the Hamburg card, even better. Make sure to plan a bit beforehand since you can easily spend 3+ hours visiting the different exhibitions. Also, the museum is kid friendly so there are tons of interactive stations for the little ones with games and playful activities.
An astounding collection of all things maritime. All superbly displayed in a vast and atmospheric historic warehouse. The sheer scale and quality of the collection is breathtaking: there are tens of thousands of ship models - and that's on the 9th floor alone. I only got to see half of it because there was simply too much to take in. Absolutely magnificent.
This museum I visited yesterday and it was incredible experience because I really into maritime history especially WW1 and WW2 periods. The exibitions were well-curated with wide range of artifacts and different periods works of art. The displays were informative and making it east to learn and observe.
There were some exhibitions with periodic marine uniforms, weapons and different variety of head gears especially interesting for me.
The museum also had well-stocked gift shop with wide section of interesting maritime items.
Overall this museum was excellent experience and I can highly recommend it to anyone interested in maritime history and development.
If you like marine life, you should definitely see this museum. Interesting for kids, too. You should spare Minimum 2 hours for a decent visit.
I like here.
Student have discount.
U could spent all day here.
The restaurant also supply tasty and cheap food.
This has to be the biggest museum I’ve ever been to. Yes, as everyone already mention it has nine floors and each one is so interesting. We went around 12 in the morning and the ticket costed 8€ each since it was closing after 2 hours so I would say that was definitely worth it and we did manage to go through all the floors with a ticket half the price. Beautiful exhibition and definitely a must visit!

Fermé le 27 décembre. Déçu car noté ouvert sur Google et venu sur place de France exceptionnellement ce jour là pour le musée et cette concession

I would recommend getting a guide. Also visit the Red Dot museum and you may skip the Ruhr museum.
An interesting Place to visit which grants you a look into the past. There is a lot to see, and tours to be taken. Whether you are young or old, want to walk a lot or not, there is something for everyone. A lot to look at, a lot to explore. You can walk around the premises and take a look at the different sites or take the bus.
There is a variety of restaurants and cafes all over the area if you get hungry or thirsty in the meantime.
There is plenty of parking so that you should easily find a spot whenever you come. Alternatively the site is easily to reach by public transport.
Overall if you are interested in the industrial times you should definitely give this place a visit when you are around.
Great place to be and have a look around. I didn’t have the chance to see all relevant parts but it was still great.
Good place to visit. Could spend hours inside the museum and outside places. The plus point was when I visited the place, there was music and food fest organized by Essen Stadt. Beautiful place with massive architecture of metal. I would recommend to visit it once.

Follow for more interesting suggestions and insights.
I love this place and can relate to it to be an UNESCO world heritage. It's absolutely impressive and stunning. As a German I didn't even know what was here to see. Dimensions are huge and the industrial style to me looks surreal. I will definitely come back to see more and make a guided tour. There is a lot of industrial history here.
